Chapter Five: Kayla
Kayla kept scanning the room from her place on the mattress. Taking the time every once in awhile to glance back at the terrifying thing lying on the bed. She hoped that maybe, just maybe if she was quite enough, she could attempt to sneak out once more. She needed to find Skylar and she needed to escape.
But she also needed to wait until the thing was for sure asleep. She had thought he was distracted enough earlier to make her escape, and she had been wrong. She wouldn't make that mistake again.
Once Kayla was sure the thing was out, she slowly stood up and slipped out of her shoes. She kept her socks on, however, hoping they would do something to help muffle the sound of her footfalls.
She took a deep breath before finally stepping over to the end of the mattress. She held her breath as she took her first step off the warm furs and onto the cold metallic floor. She glanced at the thing again, it was still out, but for how long?
That thought sent a rush of fear through Kayla, and pushed her to move forward. Making her movements as fast as she could, while remaining quiet all the while.
'Stay asleep, stay asleep.' She thought to herself as she up at the panel lock above her. It looked like it was almost out of her reach, but she had to be sure.
She pushed herself up onto her tiptoes and extended her arm out to touch it. Her fingers only being able to scrape the bottom of the panel, just an inch or so shy of the actual panel itself.
She held this pose for a long while, reaching so hard she felt as if her arm would pop from its socket. Finally, she gave up after a few more failed attempts. She was wasting precious time, she wouldn't be getting up there without a boost of some sort.
Immediately her eyes turned back to the room. Scanning around it for something, anything she could use. A grin worked its way onto her face as her gaze fell on the things mask.
'One step closer.' She thought as she made her way quickly to the object. Grabbing it up in her hands she went back to the door and placed it where she needed it. Taking a deep breath she slid the socks off her feet and put a foot on the mask.
She leaned on it some, testing if it could handle her weight before finally stepping on it. Thankfully it didn't cave under her. Yet again she reached up swiping her hand on the lock like she saw the thing do earlier.
The door opened causing Kayla to jump, sending her falling to the floor with a loud oof. She cringed slightly, glancing back at the thing. To her relief, it somehow was still asleep.
Wasting no time, she bolted up and ran out of the room and into the hall. Looking both ways before turning and running in one direction. One of her tasks were finished and out of the way. She had escaped without getting injured and waking the thing. Now she just needed to find Sky, and find a way out of here.
Eventually, her running slowed into a stroll as she moved carefully down the hall. Keeping a sharp eye out for anything else that could be roaming around wherever she was. She hadn't remembered the ship she saw being this big. But then again, she hadn't looked at it for very long before attempting to get Skylar and herself to flee.
The sound of a door opening made Kayla nearly jump out of her skin. She halted, watching as two more of the things walked out a room that was only a few feet ahead of her. Quickly she moved to stand against the wall. Pressing herself flat against it in an attempt to not be seen.
The creatures walked away from where she was and down the hallway. Neither one of them bothering to close the door of the room they had just left. Kayla let out a sigh of relief, thankfully they hadn't seen her.
