The picture above shows Trisha MajestySunlight streamed into my room through the window, I stirred in my half-awake sleep. It was Sunday so I wanted to sleep in but my smartphone rang to the tune of Starships, my favorite Nicki Minaj song.
I sat up rather slowly picking the lime green phone from my white plastic nightstand and smiled when I checked the Caller ID.
"Hi Hailey, good morning."
"Gosh Trish I miss you, even Caleb is fretting about your departure. What can I do without you? Nothing Trisha, absolutely nothing."
All I heard in her voice was distress, anguish, sorrow and pain and I was sure that's how I sounded.I chuckled softly. "I miss you too, bestie. And I can't do a thing without you, you know, I wish I have superpowers so I can be teleporting to you in Detroit and I miss how you always rant of having a vampire boyfriend."
Hailey laughed but it didn't take a genius to know it was a faked one. " And how you grumble when I say that."
My voice went thick with emotion. "Oh Hailey if I only had a chance to be in Detroit again, I'd take it with joy.""My cat Debbie is acting weird since yesterday, I think she's pregnant and I wonder who the dad of the kitten in her is."
I laughed. "You're joking, right Hails?"
Her voice broke into a sob. "I miss you, I won't forgive Mrs M for mom for this. She separated us all because she had been dieing to work in the almighty Stars Memorial Hospital in Chateau le Star."After thirty minutes our conversation on the phone ended. I walked my butt off the bed to the windows staring at the orange and cream house next door on the left, it was also a two-story duplex like this new house my mom and I live. It was Benjamin's house, I think.
What a poor boy. I was really harsh on him yesterday, I vented my anger of being separated from Hailey on him and now I couldn't help but feel sorry for the boy, he was only being nice to his new neighbors and I treated him like shit. I really wasn't that type of person, i was nice and kind-hearted. I need to apologize to him and explain why I acted like that to him.
When I gazed up, I noticed somebody opening the curtains of the room opposite mine upstairs next door. My heart skipped when I saw Benjamin with his black hair ruffled from sleep and his pair of fine blue eyes staring back at me in sheer and utter amusement. His chest was bare and when he noticed my gaze was on his smooth ivory-skinned chest, his cheeks warmed up with a blush.
"Good morning," he stammered scratching the back of his head.
"Um hi," I smiled.
He was a bit surprised at my smile considering the fact that I was unfriendly to him yesterday.
I didn't know how to start apologizing to him. "Look Ben, I'm sorry about yesterday. I didn't mean to act like that but it's just that I'm not happy about my mom and I moving here."
He nodded. "I understand how you feel Trisha."My lips twitched in forming a lopsided grin. "You do?"
He nodded again returning a smile. "Of course I do."
"How about you come hang out with me when we get dressed and we have both eaten breakfast and maybe show me around the neighborhood?" I asked shyly. He grinned shrugging both shoulders. "Well, what am I doing to say no? Trust me, Chateau le Star is fun. You'd love it here."
"Well maybe."
He said carefully. "I'd come over to your house as soon as I'm done with everything I wanna do this morning."I had just finished eating breakfast, bacon and fried eggs with my mom.
I was dressed in a blue knitted short-sleeved blouse, short white A-line skirt and blue sandals.
I took after my mom in looks, I was 5'3 tall while my mom was a few inches taller than I was. We both had fair skin, a slender build with slightly curly golden light brown hair that reached the top of our back.I knew it was Ben when I heard a knock on the door as my mom and I were currently in the living room. I opened the door to see Ben in his lean 5'8 tall body clad in a red T-shirt, white jeans and red slip-on sneakers.
He was cute in his own way, I hate to admit it but he was such a fine sight with those white jeans encasing his long legs."Good morning Mrs M." He gave my mom a genuine smile.
My mom went to him and hugged him. "What a good looking boy you are, your exes are stupid for leaving you."
I rolled my eyes. "Mom stop being dramatic.""So how is your family? Is your mom around, I want to meet her. She must also be nice." My mom assumed.
Ben answered. "She's nice but she ain't around. She went to a carnival with my sister."
"What of your dad?"
Ben's expression changed to pain at the mention of his father. My mom gasped. "Oh sorry sweetie, my husband's also dead, he died five years ago in a ghastly accident."
Ben's face was shocked with his jaw dropped low, more like looking appalled. "My dad isn't dead, he lives in New Orleans. He's a very busy Realtor. He visits once in a while and I'm sorry about the death of your husband.""Nah sweetie, I'm glad your dad ain't dead."
"My cousins are visiting next week Saturday, my younger Sally is having her eighth birthday.""You have cousins?" I asked.
He nodded. "Tons of them, my family is large. I have relatives like step cousins too."
My mom smiled. "Cool I can't wait to meet them if I wouldn't be busy at work."Ben tore his gaze away from my mom to me. "So Trisha which school in Chateau le Star did you enrol in?"
"Er, my mom enrolled me in Vincehill High School or whatever. I don't even know where it is yet."
"Cool! That's my school so we get to go to school together."
My mom was was more than happy. "That's great actually, she's gonna start going there tomorrow so you can both go to school tomorrow and every day. Where do you board a taxi or a bus to school?"
Ben answered. "Actually I have a car, Mrs Majesty.""Well that's splendid, she'll be going to school with you. I bought Trisha a car two years ago but she was reckless one day she nearly caused an accident scene and since then I never allowed her to drive even if she keeps begging me."
I rolled my eyes. "And you gave it to Jack, he had his own car and you made it two for him."
"Who's Jack?" Ben asked in slight bewilderment that was evident on his face.My mom smiled. "My cocky son, he's Trisha's elder brother but he's in Detroit 'cause his college is there and he's matured enough to take care of himself alone."
