Chapter 30 "Thomas's Goodbye":

Clem's POV:
"Alright Clem. Just one more." Louis said as I lifted up the final large box of our food that we hid from Lilly and put it on top of the shelf behind the cafeteria. "Damn, Clem! You're pretty strong for a girl." Louis said is I turned around and gave him a nasty look or putting my hands on my hips like I usually do. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" I asked him with attitude. "Oh shit! I'm sorry. That's not what I meant." He apologized. "It was only three boxes. And besides, I could easily kick your ass on any given day, Lou." I told him lowering my attitude. "Oh come on. That's... Probably true. Anyways, thanks for the help. You can go back to your lover now." He joked as I rolled my eyes and begin to walk away. But as I walked away, I looked back at him and said, "He's a better lover than you'll ever be, Louis." "Damn, girl! No need to hurt my pride." He joked as we both had a good laugh before I went off to find Gabe.
I went to the front of the cafeteria building as I caught Gabe coming out of the apartment complex. I could help but smile the sight of him as I begin walking in his direction. "Hi, bab...." I was about to say when I approached him, but I notice he looked sad with a single tear going down his face. "Babe, what's wrong?" I asked him as he just looked at me sadly. "Get everyone in our old group gathered. I need to go talk to Eleanor." He said choking up. "Gabe, what's going on?" I asked now getting a bit scared. "It's Thomas. He's... he's has been bit." He told me as my eyes grew wide with shock and my mouth opened a bit due to the surprising news. "What?! How?!" I asked him getting more scared. "He told me that he got it when walker Abel to talk to me yesterday. He decided not to tell anyone and spend as much time alive is he have left." He explained to me is I was at a loss for words.Quote this... This is... Bullshit!" I explained. "Just please gather up the others for me while I talk to Eleanor. Nobody from here though so just get Louis, Tennessee, AJ, Viol...." He tried to say until I interrupted, "Yeah, I understand but... What are you going to talk to Eleanor about?" "We... Need to put Thomas... Out of his misery." He said his eyes and began to go from shocked to straight up said. "Oh. I understand." I told him as he then said, "Just go get the others and meet us at Sophia and Thomas's apartment." "OK. I... I will." I said before he hugged me and I had back. We usually just hug for the hell of it, but this time I think it was something we both needed at that moment.
Gabe's POV:
After we shared a tight hug, Clementine did is I asked and when I have to tell the others to meet us at the apartment well I want to tell Sophia and Eleanor the heartbreaking news. It would be hard to tell Sophie especially because she's expecting to give birth to the child exactly 6 months. I walked into the medical center as I was about to walk in the room, but I hesitated for a moment at the thought of when I was about to do. I am going to have to tell an expecting mother that her baby's daddy is about to die and will never get to see his child. I walked in as Eleanor and Sophie were having a discussion that I didn't really care on hearing. "Gable? What are you doing here?" Eleanor asked me. "Eleanor, I... I need both of you to come with me." I told her. "I'm kind of in the middle of something right now, Gabe. I'm talking to Sophia about getting some more medicine for Thomas. After we're done, then we will go with you." She said is I side of sadness hearing her say Thomas's name. "Actually this... Is about Thomas. He is... Not going to make it." I told her as her eyes grew wide and Sophia looked pissed. "How could you even say that?! He's sick but he'll make it." She told me sounding offended. "Sophie, he's... He's been bit. He won't get better. At least not now." I told her as my heart broke into seeing the look her face made after hearing that.  "What? No. No no no no! That's not true!" She said getting upset. "But it is. I just want to see him in your apartment where he showed me the bite mark on his arm." I said if she didn't burst into tears as I put my hand on her shoulder. "I am so sorry, Sophie. But he's running out of time. And I need you to to come with me so... You can say your goodbyes." I told her and she sadly no I did still crying and I took both her and Eleanor to see him one last time.
We walked into their apartment to see everyone gathered around Thomas who is still on the couch as Sophie and I pushed past Violet and Minerva. We go through as Clem was right there sitting on the arm of the couch by his side comforting him and she did looked up at me so early. "He is... Almost out of time." She told me as I stood next to her. "What she doing here? I thought you said just our original group?" Louis questioned me about Eleanor. "Eleanor is a good friend. Plus, she's our medic. If she's allowed to be here." I responded as Louis nodded "So... Sophie?" Thomas asked for her as she took his hand and replied, "I am here, handsome. I am... I am here." "I'm so sorry. I should've told you." He said starting  to sound faintly. Why didn't you?!" She asked well sobbing. "I don't want you to worry. Or anyone else too. I just wanted some... More time with you." He said is I looked around to see everyone starting to cry a little. "I am so sorry that... I won't get to see our baby. I give anything to... See it's smile." He continued is that only made Sophia cry harder. "I wish that too. God, this can't be happening!" She said well still crying her eyes out. "Goodbye... My love." She said as she kissed him on the lips as he kissed back as it look like their first kiss when we all knew it would be their last. She then began to walk out of the room so she didn't have to witness the love of her life die in front of her as Thomas yelled out, "Tell our son about me." "What?" Sophie asked him confused. "I just have a feeling it's a boy." He said as she wiped her tears away but more still came. "If it is a boy, I will... I will name him after his father." She said as Thomas smiled as she sadly left the room.
"Gabe? Clem?" He then asked for us. "What is a come a time?" Clem asked him. "I know I've given you to shit from time to time, but I just want you to to know that, I've always considered you my friends not just fellow survivors. You guys are great leaders and... And great friends." He said as Clem and I began to cry more now. "You've been a good friend to, Thomas. Hell, you're the one who gave me the confidence to go ask clam out to the lake where we fell in love. I owe every bit of our happiness we have now to you." I told him as a single tear went down his face as he slowly took out his knife and handed it to me. "You should... You should be the one to... Do it." He said it's his life began to fade. "Thomas, I don't know if I...." I tried to say until he grabbed my wrist and replied, "You... Have to. I don't want to be one of those... Monsters." "OK. I... I will." I said is I raised up the knife to stab him in the head as he said, "Goodbye, everyone. Goodbye, Gabe." "Goodbye... Thomas." I said is I then stabbed him in the head as he was now dead. Everyone began crying harder as I just cried over him with my tears landing on his corpse. "I... I should go come for my sister. You should bury him in the graveyard." Minerva set as I looked at her, nodded, and Louis helped me carry Thomas's body to the yard. We arrived with everyone else in the community looking at us sadly as Clem helped dig the hole as Louis and I placed his body in it. I didn't finish filling the grave back up as Violet put up the cross and carbs his name into it along with, "A father, a fighter, and a friend."
