daniel didn't deserve to die.
he didn't live a meaningful life and he didn't accomplish much, but he was a great person.
at least, that's what his eulogy said.

daniel lived a normal life, really. it's a shame he's dead, but it wasn't anyone's fault.

waking up late on an awfully cold thursday, he shivered. he dreaded the drive to school, he didn't feel like his mum nagging him like she did every time he missed the bus.

"daniel! i am not waiting for you any longer. you have five minutes or you'll walk to school!" his mum called from down the hallway.

groaning loudly, he pushed the covers off himself and stood up. he walked over to his wardrobe and pulled out a pair of black jeans and a navy blue jumper. after quickly dressing, he slid his shoes on and rushed to the bathroom, nearly swallowing the mouthwash he poured into his mouth.

he had no choice but to embrace his hobbit hair, because he didn't have time to straighten it. he knew by now that half straightened was worse than not at all.

daniel grabbed his bag and jumped down the last few steps and sprinted out of the front door and to the car, sliding into the passenger side and slamming the door behind him.

his mum flared her nostrils , glaring at him. "im sorry."

"save it. buckle up and lets go," she murmured harshly.

the next four minutes were silent. both dan and his mum said nothing as they pulled out and drove down the road to the school building.

"mum, there's a stop sign." he said as his mother made no attempt to slow down.

she rolled her eyes, turning her head to face dan. "we have to get you to school. and besides, no one uses this road anyhow," she said crossly.

before, the car had been filled with silence, the only thing on the windows were rain droplets from hours before and slight fog from daniel's breath.

another car, going 30 mph on a rural backroad, made no attempt to slow down as the cars grew closer.

"stop!" dan tried to yell, he tried to prevent it, but the screeching of tires and the shattering of the windshield drowned out his cries.

the cars collided, the car slammed into the left side of theirs. dan couldn't even have seen his mothers face, masked in sheer terror.
he saw the bumper of the oncoming car and then the world went black.

he didn't deserve to die.

dan howell left this world thinking that he didn't deserve to live.
