Broken Without You

Chapter 9: Tye

Hi guys. It's me Tye, again. Of course you knew that because, that's probably what this chapter is going to be called. What was I saying? Oh yeah. It's me Tye. So, Brendan and Tye had their little lovey-dovey movie thing, great for them.

I went home after our short meeting in the library. I thought that maybe I would do some more digging about what I found hidden at Santos Estate.

I had also been thinking about what Sarah had said, and described. She was at my house while it was raining. And then there was cars and stuff. Maybe it had something to do with whatever was off-schedule that that weird scientist person was talking about that I had witnessed.

After being picked up by a shiny black limo, I arrived home, and was greeted by our Smart Home in the same robotic voice as before. "Welcome home Master Tye," it said. "How was school."

"It was good," I mumbled. But I wasn't really paying attention. I was looking at my phone, at the numbers I saw my dad type into the hidden keypad behind that picture.

726867.

What did that mean? Ignoring our Smart Home, I walked upstairs, to the place the hidden staircase was at. I typed in the code. 726867. In a whoosh, the stairs lifted up, revealing stairs. I walked down, and the stairs shut behind me.

I walked down the stairs. Eventually there was a light bulb, but that was it. The rest of the time, I couldn't really see.

Eventually I made it down all the way. I was in a small room, with tables covered in computers and beakers of bright, bubbly liquid. Papers and books were everywhere, as if they had been thrown there. The room was empty, but I noticed a door on the other side of the room. I walked over to it, and was about to open it, when it opened. I saw the back of my dad's head. He was talking with something, angrily.

"What the hell do you mean? I did NOT sign up for this!"

I walked quietly backward, and climbed under the table, pulling the tablecloth down, so that I was hidden.

"Er, it appears that your son was one of the few who received powers," I heard the same man as before say. "According to our sources, he was one of five. If you could look at the tv."

There was a pause.

"The first to get their power is Quinn Claw. We've done some research, and digging, and we've found that their gender is non binary," he said. I looked at him through a small hole in the tablecloth, and saw the name 'Jensen' on a name tag. "More research is being made. Xer power is to change into different animals based on xis current emotion. We're not sure which animals, but we do know that that power is very special. The second individual," they paused, looking at the screen again. A picture of Taylor was on the screen. "Is a teenager known as Taylor King. He can summon weapons at will. It's up to his imagination. We know that he has managed to summon a bow and arrow, a sword and shield, and a light saber."

"Hmmm," I heard my dad say.

"Third would be Sarah Smith," Jensen said. "What she can do," the screen changed to a video, a security camera. It was an overhead view of the big car chase when we were rescuing Brendan. "is very impressive. Basically, she has psychic powers. We believe that with enough training, might even be able to see the future. Isn't that incredible? Fourth is Brendan Thomas. Lined up against everyone else, he might not have the best powers. Brendan can slow time down, but allowing him to move at the same speed. To everyone else, it looks like super speed. However, we estimate that there are many different ways this power can be used. We hypothesis that he could slow time down to do anything. More time to solve a puzzle, dodge an attack, or something like that."
