Chapter 4
"...and cheese, that's it. Oh! And can I have a drink also?" Mason added, finishing his order.
"And for the lovely lady?" the guy making the burritos said.
"Um... I'll have a burrito on white with white rice and black beans" I said.
"And for the meat?" the man asked.
"Oh yeah! Sorry, the chicken please. For the toppings can I have the hot salsa, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole? That's all thanks!"
"Oh wait! Can we have a side of the spicy queso and chips?" I finished.
"Do you want a drink?" Mason asked.
"Nah, I'm not that thirsty" I responded.
"Mmkay! That'll be $24.89" the cashier stated, unenthusiastically. As I was reaching for my wallet to pay, I heard the lady say 'Thanks', and Mason just smiled. He picked up the food and started to walk to a table.
"I could have paid. I mean I am eating the food, so I should be the person to pay."
"I was the one who dragged you out here, so I'm paying" Mason replied.
"Fine, but if we have to do this again, I'm paying!"
As he sat the food on the table he left to go fill up his drink. 'Shoot I'm thirsty I should have gotten a drink. Danggit!
Welp there's nothing I can do now so I guess I'll just eat and get a drink at home.'Almost as soon as he got back to his seat he said the one thing I've been dreading!
"Soooo..... how are we gonna do this assignment...20 questions? Go down a list of the important things, or what?"
"20 questions is fine with me, but let's make some rule so we don't cross any lines" I responded.
"Mmkay one: no super personal questions. Tw-"
"Two: we can pass on any question" I budded in.
"Ok... Three: no dumb questions" he finished.
"Kay I'm good with that. You wanna go first?" I asked as I took a bit of my burrito.
"Sure... what's your favorite food?" he inquired.
I nodded towards my burrito because I didn't want to talk with my mouth full. I'm pretty sure he got the point, as he nodded his head in response. Once I swallowed, I asked him the same question, but color instead.
"I don't know! Uhhh, kinda like your eyes."
"Really...brown?" I asked back.
"No, your eyes are hazel, with a little bit of blue around the edge! That's the color I like"
"Thanks... I guess" I responded. I always thought my eyes were just brown. I guess I never really looked at them.
"Your turn" I said.
"Ummm, when's your birthday?" he asked
"October 21" I responded.
"Why'd you change?" I asked soon after I answered."What do you mean?" I could almost see the gears turning in his head.
"I mean: In 9th grade you were a model student! You had perfect grades, you had never been in a fight, and all the teachers loved you. What happened to make you change and start ruining you life? You set things on fire, you skip class, and you shove your tongue down skimpy girls throats! What happened?!" It all just fell out.
God, I need to learn when to shut it!' I thought as he said he was done eating, and started to walk out to his car.
Well I'm not going to waste my food so I got up and asked the cashier for two bags a wrapped up our burritos and I put them in the bags and started walking out to the car.

Once I got to his car, I got in quickly. Setting my food on my lap, I set Mason's food on the floor by my feet.
"Hey! I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."
"Mhm" Mason hummed as he put the key in the ignition and started the car. The whole time we were in the car I was wondering how he knew where he was going, so when he got to my house I decided to ask.
"How did you know where to go?"
"I see you get off the bus here on my way to my house."
"Oh, okay... Well, see you tomorrow! Bye, Mason"
As he drove off I realized I forgot to tell him I put his food on the floor. 'Eh, he'll probably find it. It's not really a big deal!'
When I walked into my house, I was bombarded with questions from my mom and sister. My Little brothers ran and just clung onto my limbs.
"Who was that guy who dropped you off?" My mom.
"Was he your boyfriend?!" My older sister, Stella, asked. She's home from college on spring break.
"Boyfend! Boyfend! Sissy got ah Boyfend!" My twin brothers were chanting. Really loudly, I might add."He's just a guy from school" I responded, annoyed.
"Uh-huh" Stella replied, suspiciously.
"You know what!? I'm going to my room!"
"Fine, I'm sorry!" my sister pleaded.
"Yah, we're sorry, sissy" my brothers said in unison as they were putting on the cutest puppy faces.
"Aww, how could I stay mad at my little boys?" I giggled as I started to tickle them both.
"See you guys later!" I said as I walked up to my room, carrying my backpack. I set up my homework on my desk, and went to change into my pajamas. I grabbed some cereal from my snack stash. When I was doing my homework, all I could think about was Mason's eyes when I asked what happened in 9th grade. I mentally and physically slapped my self in the face for asking! That it was a personal question! We made a rule, a promise, and I broke it.
"Ugggggggg" I groaned out loud when I thought back to how his eyes were happy smiling even. Then I asked that question. All emotion: Gone! His eyes went blank and he just stood up and walked away!
