(Chara's POV)

I silently watched as Echo held out her hand towards the fox. It backed away at first. But then it slowly began to sniff it, stroking the side of their face against it. She began to slowly scratch their ear and it let out a small sound. Another bush rustled and out came a small gang of three fox pups. They all ran right up to her. Two of them tried to crawl into her lap at the same time and one of them was playing with her hair. A small smile appeared on her face as I could hear a slight chuckle.

She was...cute...

I slapped myself. No! No human can be cute. They're all-

"Oh. How long have you been sitting there?" she asked suddenly, looking in my direction.

"Long enough..." I answered, keeping still in case the foxes would get aggressive.

"Then come here and meet my little friends," she said, carefully patting the spot next to her. I just sat there for a moment before getting up for some reason. The mother turned her head towards me but her pups were too busy playing to notice. I slowly stepped out of the bushes. At first, the mother began to growl, but Echo placed a calm hand on her head and she went quiet. I carefully sat down a bit away from Echo. She grabbed my hand and pulled me a bit closer. It was then that the pups noticed me. At first, they just stared at me. Then one of them slowly crept over from Echo's lap, carefully placing their paw on my leg. I carefully held out a hand to it, making it back off for a moment. Slowly, it came closer again and sniffed my hand, crawling into my lap. I began to gently pet it. It made a little sound and leaned against my hand.

The other pups came over to me. One tried to crawl into my lap as well and the other was more interested in playing with my shirt.

"Cute, aren't they?" Echo asked.

"I guess..." I said. Though to be honest they were adorable. Just then one of the ones in my lap began to stand up with their paws against my chest, licking my face. As cute as it was, it was a bit uncomfortable so I tried to lean back. It just followed. I fell over on my back. This made the other two crawl over me as well. I couldn't help but laugh as their little paws tickled.

"You seem popular," Echo chuckled, a soft smile forming itself on her face.

"G-get them off! I can't breathe!" I laughed as they kept walking around and licking my face and such.

"Can't. I got a big pup here who needs attention" she answered. I saw that the mother had begun to rest her head in Echo's lap while I was busy with her pups. At that moment, one of them crawled under my shirts, making it tickle even more.

"I-I'll do anything!" I laughed even harder. Echo sat there for a moment as if she was thinking about it before picking up one of the pups, scratching its ear. It made some kind of pleased sound and its siblings immediately came running over to get the same treatment.

"I would need three hands for these to be happy" Echo sighed, still smiling. I sat up, calming my laughter. Echo smiling was weird to me. She never really smiled. Was she ever even happy? To be honest, I could have sat there for hours, but Echo got up a while later.

"Alright, that's enough cuddling for today boys and girls. We need to get going" she said, pulling me up by my shirt.

"Why do we have to go now?" I asked.

"Well, we still have medicine to deliver and it's pretty far. Considering how much time we've spent here already, we might have to stay the night

"How do you mean?" I asked.

"Well, you know about the different groups don't you?" she asked.

"..." I didn't answer.

"We're going to one of the biggest support groups. They live in an old hotel building so there's plenty of extra room for others to stay there" she explained.

"Then...why don't you live there?" he asked.

"I prefer being on my own" she answered as I saw her pick up the box of medicine, shoving it into my arms. A classic loner then?

"But when you leave my place, don't follow my example or you'll die" she said before leaving the glade.

"Why not? I'm strong on my own" I growled. She stopped, turning to look at me.

"Don't get me wrong. Your ability is fascinating. But you seem to have no control over it" she said.

"Shut up!"

"Says the one who got stabbed two times" she muttered, turning back as she left my sight. I growled but followed. She really knew how to piss me off, didn't she?

I slowly found my way out on my own, seeing her standing on a little path. She didn't seem like she had noticed me. I would show her who's weak. A grin formed itself on my face and I summoned a knife. I put the box down silently before rushing forward, slashing my knife towards her. Before I managed to hit her, she stepped to the side, grabbing my wrist as well as putting a hand on my back before swinging me around, pushing me against the ground. She replaced her hand on my back with a knee before snatching my knife, dropping it to the ground.

"H-how did you...?" I started.

"Just when I thought I could trust you as well," she sighed, getting off me.

She went and picked up the box, walking away. A little part of me felt sad for some reason when she declared her resumed mistrust to me. I shrugged it off and got up, following her.

When she said hotel, I thought it would be a rundown house in the middle of a ghost town. But as we had walked for what felt like ever, I saw a big building in the distance. It was dirty, but actually not that run down. It also lied by a smaller forest instead of in a ghost town. Echo walked up to a pair of double glass doors. Suddenly they were slammed open.

"Echo! How great to see you!"
