HER EYES watched him as he sat down, and she waited for him to be comfortable to start speaking "How are you?"
"Tired."
"You're always tired."
He cocked an eyebrow "Then why did you ask?"
"I don't know, maybe I was hoping for a different answer."
"Oh. sucks, huh, wanting a different answer?"
"You know I had to say no to you. The timing was wrong."
"And is it wrong now?"
She swallowed the lump in her throat and her small hands tightened their grasp on her coffee mug. Her big brown eyes scanned the room anxiously, subtly biting her lip before speaking once again. "So you're tired?"
Releasing a small shot of air from his nose, Walter rolled his eyes, slightly stiffening from his slouched position. "All these years apart, and nothing has changed."
"Bittersweet?"
"Bitter."
