"Grab my keys Hana! I forgot them on the counter!" I race around the kitchen island and get the set of keys on the hook by the fridge.
"Okay! Coming!" Tossing back the rest of my Nutella and bread, I run to the garage door and quickly sit in the passenger seat.
"My keys?" My mother searches through her bag and pulls out a hairtye, pulling her hair back into a ponytail.
"Here." I hand them to her and she shoves them in the ignition, leaving the driveway. We start driving down the long dirt road to town.
"Sweetie I'm coming home late today. Your father left earlier on a business trip for a convention in Roanoke. If you still don't feel good just call me and I will send you a pass home."
"Okay."
Once I got home yesterday, the pain in my head stopped.I went straight to my room and slept until my alarm went off for school the next morning. My mother found me in the morning saying she didn't know I got released from the hospital yesterday and worried until she saw me in my bed at home.
I still don't get what's happening to me. Maybe I should tell my mom? No, she wouldn't understand. I don't think this happens to everyone.
"Ugh!" I look over at my mom. Her face is flushed and she squirms in her seat. She stops the car and lays her head on the headrest.
"Mom?" What's up with her?
When she looks my way her eyes are glowing silver. She breathes raggedly, rubbing her forehead.
"Sorry honey. It's my Heat. It started and your father knows."
She turns her attention back to the road but I can tell she's unfocused.
Ew.
The Heat, it's like getting a period but happens a week before the Full Moon. It's when werewomen are horny for a whole week and excrete a scent that tells everyone they are, before they change on the full moon. It's also mainly when we want children, find mates, have lots of sex, and your wolf is more vocal.
This year will be my first, since I'm turning eighteen soon. It displays that I'm finally a woman, ready to bare children.
As if I would.
It's the time to get a mate.
As if I have one.
"We're here." I look out the window and see we got to the end of the dirt road , a gate stands in our way saying: Private Property.
I get out the car, walk to the gate, and open it to get into town. We need this gate so no humans try to enter our Clan. It's not the world's greatest decoy, people still intrude, teenagers wanting a thrill do.Most humans don't know there are werewolves and those that do, are hunting us down. They think we'd hurt them or something.
If only they realized that human meat is too high in fat for werewolves.
"Sweetheart! I'll see you later! Get a ride from Zara!" My mom backs out from the gate and heads down a different pathway.
She will probably be busy with dad all day. Glad there's school making me leave the house, it's gross when they're together.
Mom likes driving me down to the gate, makes her feel she has a reason to own a car even though she works within the pack and hardly leaves to go into town.
I start my long walk down to Radford High.
