The Christmas Gift

It was the week of Christmas which happens to be Bailey's favorite holiday she was standing in the kitchen in a pair of red knee high socks and a white sweater that barely hung above her knee with her blonde hair in a braid as she made Christmas cookies for the rest of the team. She was mixing the cookie dough mix when Bucky walked in and said "Um Bailey did you forget something upstairs." 

"You are right I forgot my ipod I need some Christmas music on." she said 

"No that's not what I meant.." Bucky said as she bolted upstairs and grabbed her Ipod and ran back to the kitchen once she got off the elevator.

"Did you say something when I left." she said as she fumbled through her Christmas playlist. 

"Um yeah I didn't mean your music I meant your pants." he said as he pointed up and down at her.

"Why would I need pants on this is a dress I made myself." she said as she did a spin. 

"You made that sweater?' he said

"Yes I did and I said it's a dress." she said 

"It looks like a shirt." he said 

She rolled her eyes and went back to making her cookies while singing along to her Christmas music. Steve came in and said "Did she forget to put on pants?'

"She swears it's a dress." Bucky said 

"Ok well she asked me to get the Christmas decorations down want to help." Steve said 

"Yeah sure even though I'm not really in the Christmas spirit like she seems to be all the time. I miss Christmas with my mom who would cook a big Christmas dinner." Bucky said as they walked off.

Bailey looked down when she heard Bucky and felt tears welling. Natasha walked into the kitchen and said "you ok Bailey." 

"Yeah..I am." she said 

She finished putting her cookies together and then everybody helped her decorate the living room of the compound for Christmas. That night she knocked on Steve's door and said "Can I talk to you Steve?'

"Is everything ok Bailey?' Steve said 

"Yeah I just want to talk." she said 

She had hot chocolate in her hand for the two of them with her tray of cookies and she went in and sat down and took a bite of her cookie. She said "um Steve I need your help with something I'm not sure how to ask you." 

He took a sip of his hot chocolate and said "Just ask me Bailey you know you can ask me anything." 

"DId you um ever go over to Bucky's for Christmas dinner?' she said 

"Yeah I did why?' he said

"I um well I overheard him earlier when you all left the kitchen. Um do you think that you could tell me what his mom would do for him for Christmas and um what she made." she said as she wringed her fingers in her sweater. 

'You like Bucky don't you Bailey?' he said 

"I um I just want to do something nice for him Steve please." she said 

"Ok..well his mom knitted a lot and she would make him sweaters and scarfs although we don't really need them now cause of the serum." Steve said as he started to tell her about Winnie and what she would make for Christmas dinner. 

The next day Bailey got dressed she put on a pair of leggings with a red sweater and pulled her beanie on with her boots and she had her list in her hand. She walked out of her room and Bucky said "Going somewhere doll?'

"Yeah I'm going to the store I'll be back later." She said as she got in her car.

She went to the store and got her stuff to make dinner for the whole team and she got some blue and white yarn. When she got back she put everything up in the kitchen and told everyone not to touch it that she was using it for something. Then she went into her room and started to knit Bucky a blue and black sweater since she already had black yarn and had Steve be here guide for the right measurements. 

A few days later it was Christmas Eve she had kicked everyone out of the compound so they all played in the snow and she made everything and sat it all out and lit candles all over the dining room where the tree was and changed into her red and white sweater dress she made herself that went below her knee with a pair of black tights on and black boots and curled her blonde hair. She texted Steve and told him nobody could come eat till they got cleaned up and looked nice. 

Bucky went into his room as much as he was not in the spirit he didn't want to let Bailey down he knew how much she loved Christmas and he wanted to atleast have fun for her cause he liked her. She stood at the door and waited for everyone and Steve smiled and said "Look you have on tights atleast Bailey." 

"Shut up Steve." She said 

"What's going on Bailey' Natasha said 

"I um I" she said as Bucky was the last to come in

She swallowed hard and said "Um I made Christmas dinner." 

Bucky looked at her with tears and realized that she had heard him and she opened the door to the living room where she sat up the living room like a dining room and they all walked in and started to make plates and Steve said "This is delicious Bailey." as they all started to eat. She was waiting for the one person she did this for to say something and Bucky just kept eating and Steve seen her face. 

"Buck say something to her about it cause she did this for you cause she heard you the other day and she wanted to do something nice for you for Christmas" Steve whispered in his ear. 

Bucky swallowed hard and he looked at her face and could tell he had hurt her feelings by not saying anything when everyone else had. He said "Thank you for making dinner Bailey it's delicious it's um almost like being home again" 

"Yeah well you're welcome." she said even though she knew it was only because Steve made him say something. 

After dinner they all sat down on the couch and started to do gifts and she said "Hey Buck this is from me." as she hands him the gift and he said "Thank you." 

"Yeah." she said 

She started to head to her room and Steve said "You don't want to see if he likes it." 

"Why it took you telling him to say something about dinner for him to say something." She said with tears and went to her room. 

Bucky opened up his gift from her and he went to tell her thank you when he saw that she had made him a sweater and but looked up and seen that she was gone. Steve mouthed "Her room" 

Bucky looked down and got all the paper off of him and took the sweater with him and went upstairs. He knocked on her door and heard her sniffling back tears and he felt his heart break. He opened her door and he said "Bailey" 

She sniffled back tears and sat up and said "What?'

He sat down beside her and said "Why are you crying?'

"Because I tried to make Christmas good for you cause I heard you say you missed your mom and Christmas with her and it took Steve telling you to make you say something at dinner." she said 

He wiped her tears and said "Sweetheart I didn't mean to upset you I didn't know you made dinner to make me happy I thought you were just being nice like with the cookies I'm sorry. And by the way you made the best damn pecan pie and I love this sweater it's in my two favorite colors." 

She smiled and said "I know and you are welcome." 

"Put your boots and coat on I have something for you.' he said when he saw snow falling outside her window.

She put her boots on and her coat and beanie on and he took her outside and she said "What are we doing I"m freezing." 

He leaned down and kissed her and she started kiss back as he pulled her closer to him and cupped her cheek. He whispered "Merry Christmas Doll." 

"Merry Christmas" She whispered as he kissed her again as the snow continued to fall around them.
