Bakugo's POV

-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-

Bakugo opened his eyes. The world was empty. Blank space stretched around him, with no clear horizon. He climbed to his feet, and heard footsteps behind him.

"Who's out there?"

A figure stepped out of the surrounding gloom. Bakugo tensed.

Midoriya.

The scrawny boy raced toward him, fist raised. Bakugo didn't think twice before attempting to throw  an explosion his way.

Nothing happened.

Bakugo paused for a moment before trying again. Not even a spark.

Midoriya crashed into him, and One for All shook Bakugo bone-deep. He was briefly airborne, then fell to the ground with a dull thud.

The boy approached him with a cruel smirk. "And you said I was the worthless one."

Bakugo winced as Midoriya kicked him in the ribs once, twice, three times. The blonde let out a groan as the boy stopped suddenly, and stepped away. Bakugo risked looking up, and instantly regretted it.

Three more figures appeared. Sero, Mina, and Kaminari.

Midoriya looked at the trio and rolled his eyes. "Out of  everyone to befriend, you choose him?"

Sero cackled. "Bakugo? We only ever put up with him because Kirishima liked him so much."

A familiar voice sounded from the distance. "What about me?'

Mina gestured towards Bakugo as if he was a pile of dirt. "That you like him."

Kirishima looked Bakugo in the eye. The blonde's heart broke.

The redhead's eyes were blank. He would have been happier if he'd seen hatred, but Kirishima's gaze showed nothing but indifference at Bakugo's broken state.

Kirishima glared at Mina. "He doesn't mean a thing to me."

Kaminari snorted. "Right. As if."

The redhead turned to face Bakugo again. As if to prove his point, he hardened his fist and swung.

Bakugo saw stars, and then everything began to fade. The pain, however, kept multiplying.

He let out a pathetic whine. "Stop it. Please, just stop!"

Kirishima's POV

"Thanks, Tenya! See ya later!"

Kirishima ran as quietly as he could down the dormitory hall. It had gotten pretty late, but Tenya had gathered a small group of boys to discuss group battle techniques.

He slowed to a halt as he heard a terrified cry come from the common room. Kirishima looked in hesitantly, not wanting to scare anyone.

Bakugo was curled up on a chair, eyes wide open, but clearly dreaming. He trembled with fear, looking the most vulnerable Kirishima had ever seen him.

"I swear, I don't mean to be an ass. Just stop hurting me!"

The redhead approached him. "Uh, Bakugo?"

The blonde leapt to attention, lashing out at all angles. Small explosions rained, and Kirishima barely dodged two of them.

"Bakugo, it's okay! It's just me!"

Bakugo thrashed even more. "Why the hell should that make me feel any better?"

Kirishima was upset by this. "Are you okay?"

The blonde's eyes filled with angry tears. "No! I'm not fucking okay!" He wilted, and looked more like an exhausted teen than the angry being he was used to.

Kirishima pulled him into a hug before the other boy could protest.

Bakugo's POV

Bakugo stiffened. He hated  hugs. But this was unlike anything he'd ever experienced. This was kind, gentle, natural. Kirishima pulled back, and Bakugo began to cry with relief.

Those beautiful red eyes were what he remembered. Warm and bright. What he'd seen before was just a figment of his idiotic imagination.

The redhead looked at him with even more concern. "You sure you're okay now?"

Bakugo nodded. "I should, uh, go back to my room then."

Kirishima smiled. "Yeah. Want me to come with you?" The blonde nodded again. They began to walk down the empty hallway.

They reached Bakugo's room first. Kirishima left with a bright, "See you in the morning!"

Bakugo shut the door, and fell wearily onto his bed. Any other time, he'd be terrified to fall asleep, fearing the nightmares that could plague him if he allowed them to.

However, the only thing on his mind was that warm hug he'd been given as he fell into oblivion.

'Someone does care about me...'
