First Move

*Sierra's POV*

The day moves slower than I could ever imagined. Probably because of how much I am anticipating the moment I start the search for my father's murderer.

I think hard on where Khalil and I should go later today during lunch. I barely pay attention to Val and the conversation she's having about the latest Kardashian offspring.

Luckily, my last period for the day goes by quickly. It's already time to meet Khalil. I zoom through the crowd and go straight behind the building to find Khalil. I find him leaning against his car, twirling his keys.

He see's me from the corner of his eye. "Where to cuz?" I smile at him, stopping at the passenger side of the car.
"City Hall. I have a pretty good idea of where we can start."

He nods and opens the car door, sliding into the driver's seat. One thing I'll always love about him is how he never questions things.

We spend half of the drive chatting about our day and the other half turning up to trap music. We pull into a spot by the front of the building and step out of the car.

"Ready?" I ask looking over at him. He nods slowly and follows my lead into the building. We walk straight past the receptionist. She doesn't even care about her job or the building enough to acknowledge us.

"We should probably head to the News section and see if there's anything useful."

We split up, going through the rows of the town news. I have never seen so many papers of black and white until now.

I skim through the papers quickly, checking in boxes hoping to find something good. Nothing. I'm almost at the end of my shelf when Khalil shouts over at me. "Sisi come look at this!"

I jog over almost snatching the paper from him skimming down the paragraphs of black ink as quick as I can. "It's describing a house break in and one of the house owners being murdered."

I looks up from the paper to Khalil.
"This is probably what you're looking for, sounds just like it." I nod at him in response.

I continue reading down the paper. There are multiple entries on the incident. I read them all. I was shocked with each opinion.

I put the papers in my bag for safe keeping. "We'll need it later."

We continue on. After a while, we find nothing else interesting. "I don't see anything else Sisi maybe we should go." Says Khalil in a tired tone.

I look back at the box I was carrying and nod in agreement. "You're right. We've been here long enough. Let's just grab something to eat and call it a night, yeah?"

He nods with a small smile on his face and walks ahead. I see another news article just as I'm leaving titled:

Had The Guy Had It Coming?
By: Barbara Willis

I grab it and dash after Khalil paying no mind to the sleeping receptionist. We get in the car. "Where should we eat?"

I think for a second eyeing my bag. "The diner. I'm in the mood for a milkshake. What about you?"

He smiles and pulls out of the parking lot. I stare out of the window. Gazing at the other cars passing by. I think about the articles I had read and the two I stole.

I'm going to figure this out one way or another. Even though I'm taking baby steps, I'm glad we've made progress.

This is only my first move.
This is only the beginning.
