Christmas Eve, 2004
A man parks his car in the garage. He had just finished Christmas shopping for his family. He has one toddler and one baby on the way. He bought baby clothes, toys, and an expensive new crib. For his wife, he bought designer bags and clothes.
He carries all of the gifts into the house. He wraps them and puts them under the Christmas tree. He pauses. He had thought he heard his child's faint footsteps. He disregards it and continues to arrange the gifts. The man turns on his stereo, playing Christmas songs to set the mood.
"It's the most wonderful time of the year.."
He opens a bottle of wine. The man pours himself a glass, taking gradual sips as he admires family photos. Everyone knows that he has a never-ending amount of love for his family.
Everyone.
He takes another sip of his wine as he looks out the window. Light flurries descend from the sky.
"There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting.."He sees someone in the window. As he turns around, a sharp blade dashes over his neck. The glass of wine drops from his hands, shattering completely on the wooden floor. His vision blurs as he collapses onto the ground. He chokes. He holds his neck as blood gushes unceasingly. All he can think about his family.
In his final breaths, he looks up at his attacker. He cannot see a face. Everything goes black.
Shortly after, the man's wife walks in with his daughter. They are in a jovial mood. The wife calls out for her husband. No response. She walks around the house, looking for her husband. She finally comes to a halt. She sees a puddle of blood next to the window.
She screams and cries in disbelief. Next to her husband, is a person holding a knife. She asks for a reason. She yells and yells.
No response.
Her child starts to cry. Another masked stranger steps over the body. The intruder stands in front of the wife. The woman stares at the attacker, crying softly. The intruder looks at the wife and then looks at the child. The stranger then walks out of the house. The attacker follows.
The woman calls the police right after. She coaxes her baby to stop crying. The wife refuses to look at her husband's corpse. She stands outside with her baby. The smell is very unsettling. The woman rubs her stomach to calm herself down.
She looks up at the snow in deep thought.
"It's the most wonderful time of the year,
Yes the most wonderful time,
Oh the most wonderful time,
Of the year."
