Chapter 1

Her eyes fixated on the man in front of her; with her hand softly pressed on her armored-plate chest, her left knee on the floor indicating her show of respect as a soldier at the man sitting across her. She bow letting her jet black hair fall slightly that it tickles her ears before standing up to her original posture; hand still on her chest while the other behind her back. The king in front of her with his dull black hair slicked back, sitting gracefully on his mighty throne as he speak his words:
“You may proceed, Captain of The Imperial South Squadron, Kurtis Risus.” His grey-colored eyes bore onto the captain’s figure; a lithe body, frail looking like a porcelain doll in a glassed cage but stronger than most of the man attending this regal room. He watch her every move, even as she speak her words.

“Your Highness, Regulus. Our squadron that you have entrust onto me from the South Wing Continent have file a report to me this morning. It is concerning sightseeing of Daemons; low rank ones wandering around the outskirts of the continent.” She took a pause, looking at him with an eye asking for permission which the King hummed “Proceed.” In return, she continue on her matter.
The Council Elders look at her with a weird look, wondering why reporting something so trivial as seeing a Daemons lurking be consider a report to the King. They bit back their tongue knowing their leader won’t be so pleased about it. “Normal for Daemons to be around areas as we all know.” She look at the Elders. “But it has come to my concern when they seems to be doing something that no Daemons has ever seen to be doing before in front of the outskirts.” The Elders nodded in understand, same goes for the King who is now arching his body forward.

“Like what, Captain?” She bit her lips, “My Lord, deepest apologies for my lack of information as it seems my men are worried and in a haste sending me this message.” The Elders groans frustrated, whispering among themselves. Probably judging me. Kurtis thought. “However, they do told me the Daemons are doing a ritual. The information are a bit sketchy, My Liege forgive me.” The King think deeply, playing with his thick beard with a twirl of his fingers. He tried to remember if he’d ever encounter the dark creatures like that.

“You’re saying they start a cult?” One of the Elders, the chancellor ask. “Kind of.” She answer simply, waiting for the King’s order. After a moment he nod, taking a deep breath before heaving a sigh fairly disappointed. “Connor,” He summoned a man not older than him; wearing a black royal marshal uniform with a clean edge cut chocolate hair, his sharp jawline visible due to him frequently shave them, his eyes slate, his brow knitted together in all seriousness and his lips pulled into a straight thin line. He stood beside Kurtis quickly, making the same gesture as Kurtis. “At your service, Majesty.” She ogle her senior mentor standing beside her. “I want you to go with your troop to investigate this matter at once, make sure that if anything suspicious rose within the South Wing, you are to be the first to report it back to me personally.” The marshal bow as soon as the King finish his order. He took his leave with three steps of royal honor before turning around to leave with his back straight.

His Highness then lean back on his chair, his elbow on the arm supporter as he start to occupy his thoughts, leaving  the jet black hair captain to stood there idiotically at the center of the room looking like a circus monkey. Her hands turned stiff for being in the same position for too long. She wander at the Elders who start to make noises inside the throne room, discussing their own matters such as the upcoming war between neighboring countries which doesn’t involved Luminis, peace treaties, countries alliances, social gatherings, international trades for a better chance at marketing, and some personal gains. She look at how worried the General is regarding the war that may have effect Luminis and Monarchies whom felt their own business being threaten by the war if countries around them have an unstable economy. Kurtis heard the Bishop that they should be alliances with every possible countries so that Luminis’ safety is guaranteed, she laugh inside knowing it will only cause Luminis involving in the war.
Kurtis listen to their discussion in order to throw away her boredom, somehow one of the monarchy realize her presence and isn’t too keen about it. “Why are you still here, Captain Kurtis? Your report had finished long time ago so leave.” He snicker alongside his line which has gotten the attention of the Elders around him. She clicked her tongue in annoyance, cursing in silence for her hate for the old senile Duke only grew by each days he target her like she had murder his entire damn family. Kurtis turned her head toward his way, she is now frowning. “Apologize dear Sir Lapis, but I mustn’t leave when my King did not dismiss me from the room. I have moral still.” She replied back, words full of venom that it has turn the table back at him. The monarch was in rage, his face turn red from embarrassment and anger at the petty girl. Every Elders now stop their discussion to see the commotion between the two. “You dare-,” he was about to cuss. “Silence!” The King gruff voice rang throughout the throne room, all of the audiences shuts their mouth, Lapis face dropped as everyone can see that. Kurtis return her gaze to her King while the man hang his head low.
Reggie look at the girl in front of him then at the monarch at his right, he wondered why the man hated her to the core since she didn’t certainly do anything to boil his anger. He decided to let it go, he’ll have a couple of words with the Duke personally, and right now he has something else that matter.
