<<David-Camp Camp>>

SLAM! You wince at the sound of the door as you walk into your cabin. Your eyes barely hold the tears that threatened to overflow. No, you think, I will not cry about them. You look down at your hands; one is bright red and bruised from the impact, still curled into a fist. You feel a surge of betrayal run through you, only making you want to cry more.

You take In a deep breath before letting it out. The feelings don't leave. You huff and decide that you should take out your anger elsewhere, campers are known to lurk in the counselors' rooms to hunt for coffee. You need to be in a place where the children of Camp Campbell won't see you so distraught and heartbroken. Some kids would take advantage of that.

You pace the small room a bit before heading out deep into the woods, passing David on the way. He seems to want to talk to you, but you rush out a "Busy," before he could speak. No one would find you here. You need to take your anger on something other than your ex-partner who earned a bloody-and possibly broken-nose. You find a stable, dead tree and walk up to it. You rear your fist back and punch it. It feels good letting your frustration out on something dead; so you do it again. And again. And again.

You do it so much and so hard; beads of blood rise on your knuckles and mix with the sweat and the blood of your ex. Your eyes dilate with frustration as you watch the tree bark fly off and your knuckles bleed with splinters. Why? What did you do to deserve this? Where you just not good enough?

Once you're done, you throw your back on the tree and slide down, sobbing your heart out rather unattractively. You're breathing so hard and you continue to wipe at your face, smearing blood on your eyes and cheeks. You'd drink the pain away, but camp counselors aren't allowed to get drunk or have any alcohol with them at any time. You feel a buzz in your pocket. You take out your phone and look at it; your sibling texted you to check up on you. How coincidental, you think.

(You): Not too well...

(Sib): What happened!?

(You): It uh...didn't work out between us. It ended with them having a bloody nose. Didn't treat me right.

Your sibling takes a while to respond, but eventually a message is sent.

(Sib): Give me their address right now! We are gonna have some words and they will be buried in someone's backyard!

(You): Dumb dumb, you're in another country.

(Sib): It's called a plane ticket. Now where they at?!

You smile softly. If the situation was different, you would laugh at your sibling's antics. An attempt to cheer up, you guess. It's nice knowing someone cares.

You thought that you could have a few moments of solitude here, but that's too much to ask for. You hear someone shouting your name. It starts faint, but grows louder and closer. You look up, about to book it elsewhere when you see David peep from behind a tree peering straight at you. It's too late to run now. You don't want to seem anything other than normal. You don't want to seem anything other than fine. But it's too late.

"Oh, good golly!" he exclaims once he sees you properly. So much for looking fine, you think. You avoid his gaze by staring determinedly at the ground. "What happened? I've been looking for you everywhere! I saw that you didn't look well, and you were here when it was your day off, so I went to follow you, but you'd been too fast!" You don't want to answer, so you reach your hand up and touch his chest in a weak attempt to push him away. Before you can pull your hand back to your side, he gingerly, though firmly, holds your hand and inspects it. You and him have been friends since you started college, so you trust him to not hurt you further.
