Oof, this took way too long to write, I sowwy. I hope you enjoy it anyway! Here you go.
"I, (Y/ N)..." He didn't know what to say. 'I'm sorry, I don't..." The feeling was similar to a bullet to the chest. Then you told your biggest, most obvious lie.
"It's fine."
Turns out, you had so much to lose, and you lost all of it. Even your heart, which in that moment was crushed into millions of tiny pieces, leaving you forever broken.
You didn't think you could ever recover from a broken heart as shattered as yours. You knew that he would reject you, it came as no surprise. But it still hurt so bad. You stood in front of Connor while trying hard not to cry. Even though you tried to hide it, you knew the emotions leaked through and he saw it. You excused yourself as calmly as you could and ran to your room, telling him that he could leave if he so chose to. He did, as you knew he would.
You curled up into yourself on your bed and cried for what seemed like hours. You couldn't even will yourself to get up for a tub of ice-cream. You called your best friend and said that you needed her after all. She didn't hesitate to come to your rescue. You talked about what happened and about your feelings and she consoled you. "Maybe-Maybe I shouldn't have told him about dating," you said. "Maybe then things would have been different," you cried. "Maybe, maybe not. But, it most likely wouldn't have," your friend said.
You sat there and cried yourself dry. Your friend had brought a tub of your favorite ice cream from your freezer for you to eat. You ate and sobbed until there were no tears. It was late and your friend called your name softly, "Would you like me to stay the night?" "No, you need to get home before it gets too late. I wish to be alone," you said. She followed your request and headed toward the door after wishing you a good night.
When she left, you turned from the door and walked to your room. All the crying and dumping of emotions exhausted you. You glanced at your phone and grabbed it. When you did, a 'ding' sounded, notifying you of a text. It was Connor. He apologized profusely and wished to know how to make it up to you for breaking your heart. You asked for time. He understood.
You walked to your room and set your phone down, looking at your computer. Maybe you should attempt moving on. Online dating may not be too safe a place, but it was a start. It would take a while to get over, but time would heal the wound. Hopefully.
The next day, you grabbed your laptop and looked up reliable-looking dating sites. You would forget about this stupid crush on Connor and move on. Then you two would remain friends and wouldn't have to be awkward about it. It still stung, of course, it would be there for a while, but you'd be lying if you said last night's session didn't help you feel better, if only slightly. You even got the weight off your shoulders of confessing to Connor and it felt slightly liberating. Of course you wouldn't be able to get over it so quickly, you were in love with him. Those kinds of wounds would take longer to heal.
It's been a few weeks, and Connor and you still hadn't talked. It was weird not talking to someone who you usually spent so much time with. You two were friends, after all. During those few weeks, you had found a nice guy on one of your websites, and you were arranging a meet-up soon at a nearby park. You hoped he was really who he said he was, and not just a pervert or weirdo. And that he didn't bail on you before the date even started.
Upon arrival, you found an attractive man sitting on a bench alone, seeming to be waiting on someone. He was looking around for something, or maybe someone. He looked familiar. Looking down at your phone, you confirmed that this might be the guy you're looking for. You walked up to him and asked, "Hey, are you, John Miller?" "Oh, Yes!" he asked of your name and when you told him, he smiled dazzlingly. "I hope you weren't waiting for long," you said, sheepish at being a bit late. He waved it off as he had only been waiting for five minutes, which eased your nerves.
