*Beezus' P.O.V*

"Who ate all the French toast sticks?" I complained after looking in the nearly empty fridge on Monday morning. When I turned around and saw the guilty look on my older brother, PJ's face, I knew I'd found the culprit, "PJ! Mom doesn't buy them just so you can gobble them all up, you know! They're for everyone!"

"I'm sorry, they just taste so good!" PJ tried to defend himself.

"I know they do, which is why I wanted some this morning!"

"What are you whining about this time, Bee?" Asked my twin brother, Gabe as he walked into the kitchen.

"First of all, I do not whine. Second of all, PJ's ruined breakfast." I explained with small pout.

"First of all, you definitely do whine. You're worse than Charlie and Toby sometimes." Gabe stated.

"It's true!" Charlie piped up from where she was sat at the table. I glared at the four year old.

"Mom!" I looked at Mom who was sat next to Charlie, hoping she would take my side. She did not.

"I'm sorry, honey. You do have the tendency to whine sometimes..."

"You know what? I don't need this kind of treatment from my own family." I was about to make a dramatic exit, only for Gabe to stop me.

"I don't know where you think you're going, the bus will be here any minute."

I let out an annoyed groan before sitting down at the table and slumping in my seat.

"I'm sorry about the French toast sticks, honey. I'll buy some more from the grocery store today." Mom said.

"Don't bother, he'll probably just eat them all again." I glared at PJ who simply shrugged. I sulked for a couple few minutes, before the bus arrived.

"Alright, come here, you two." Mom ordered, standing up and waving us over. Gabe and I did as we were told, already knowing what was to come. Mom wrapped her arms around both of us, almost squeezing the life out of us and said,
"Oh, I can't believe my babies are going to high school! It feels like only yesterday I was sending you to kindergarten in matching outfits."

"Yeah, and then Gabe totally ruined Beezus' by puking all over her." PJ reminisced. Gabe and I both pulled away from Mom, a disgusted look on my face while Gabe laughed.

"Hell yeah, I was messing with you since day one!" He grinned.

"More like ruining my life since day one." I grumbled.

"Oh, come on, Bee. You love me really." I simply rolled my eyes at my twin, choosing not to respond.

"We better get going before we miss the bus." I said instead.

"Ouch, rejected by my own twin sister. That  hurts, Bee. That really hurts." He placed a hand over his heart, pretending to be hurt.

"Shut up and get a move on." Was all I had to say in reply. Eventually, I managed to drag Gabe out of the house before we missed the bus.

"Bee!" A voice called as we climbed onto the bus. I knew who it was immediately and sure enough, spotted my best friend, Louie waving me over to where he was sat. I went to sit beside him while Gabe went and found his friends.

"We're going to high school, baby!" He beamed. How he was always so lively on Monday mornings, I will never know, "Are you excited?"

"I'm more nervous than anything, Lou." I answered honestly.

"If anyone should be nervous, it's South High, because Louie and Beezus are about to take over and we are a force to be reckoned with."

"Firstly, we're Beezus and Louie, not the other way around-"

"You wish!" Louie interrupted with a snort.

I playfully rolled my eyes before continuing, "and secondly, I can't see us taking anything over. Getting trampled in the hallways and pushed around by the big kids sounds more realistic."

"Oh, Beezus," he sighed, "always such a pessimist."

It wasn't long before the bus was pulling up in front of the school and the time had finally come to start our first day of high school. Louie and I soon found out that we were in all of the same classes, however, our lockers were nowhere near each other.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye." Louie sighed dramatically when we had to go and find our lockers.

"Lou, I'll see you in geometry class in, like, ten minutes." I laughed.

"I guess, but still, we've been locked neighbours since the first day of middle school!" He pouted.

"I'm sure we'll survive," I said, trying not to laugh again, "But we should probably hurry up and find these lockers before we end of being late for first period."

"Okay... So long, friend." The dramatic sigh returned while I just chuckled and rolled my eyes before we eventually went our separate ways.

I soon found my locker and put my combination in, only for it not to work. I frowned in confusion and tried again, but the same thing happened.

"Stupid thing." I muttered after trying a few times and getting frustrated, giving it a kick.

"Having a bit of trouble there?" A voice chuckled from behind me. I spun round to see a guy stood there, watching me with an amused smirk.

"Uh, yeah, kinda," I awkwardly replied, slightly embarrassed as this random guy had just seen me lose my temper with the locker, "my combo isn't working."

"Probably because that's my locker." He informed me, the smirk never leaving his face.

"Oh, sorry..."

"Try that one." He pointed to the locker next to his. I did as he said, and sure enough, the locker popped right open.

"Thanks..." I trailed off, now feeling even more embarrassed.

"No problem," he laughed, "I'm Noah."

"Beezus," I told him, before adding, "It's a weird name, I know. It's short for Beatrice."

"It's not weird. It's different, yeah, but it's cool." He beamed, causing me to smile back at him.

My humiliation wasn't exactly helped by the face that he was pretty cute. He had short, black, curly hair, deep blue eyes, and the most adorable smile.

"I, uh, I better go before I'm late for class." I awkwardly dismissed myself.

"See you around." He flashed me yet another smile which I returned shyly before walking away.

What a great way to start high school...
