I DON'T LIKE FUNERALS— I DON'T THINK ANYBODY DOES. but, for obvious reasons, this one is different if you could imagine. for this is a funeral where i believe the person in the casket isn't actually dead. how is this possible? well, i spent all night thinking of that one. and after 3 and a half hours, i have an answer that is even having trouble convincing myself.

my mom straightens my tie, and i brush her hand away. she gives me a sarcastic smirk.

"are you sure you don't want us to come?" she asks me for the second time, "i know this is hard for you."

i feel bad for not telling her this, but as much as there is a possibility that she is dead, there is a pretty good chance she isn't. and i'm taking that chance. to me, it's better not to lose hope. because of this, this isn't really that hard. it sounds bad, but i swear there's a valid reason.

i look at her, "yes, mom. don't worry, i'll be there with paradyse and pierre." i say. i didn't say that i would also be in the same room as all of y/n's relatives; including her mom, which i was dreading.

after nick taddle-tailed on me for using the car, i came back with the argument that i'll get my full license— so that he won't need to watch over my shoulder all the time. they think i'm in some sort of 'teen rebellion age', but all i want is some breathing space.

when i get to the adler's house, paradyse and pierre are already waiting outside. i see paradyse pacing on their lawn, and pierre sitting on the front steps, telling paradyse to stop pacing because it's making him dizzy. they see me, and paradyse climbs into the passenger seat, while pierre settles for the back middle.

"i didn't know you could drive." paradyse points out while i back out of the driveway.

"well, i can now," i answer, "i decided that it was better if i didn't illegally drive to parties at 2am." i bring back the memory and paradyse laughs a little.

"paradyse told me you thought y/n isn't dead, but she's crazy so i didn't believe her." pierre says from the backseat.

"i believe she's still alive," i justify, "if i didn't, i wouldn't have gone to her 'funeral'." i say with air quotes.

"wasn't she shot though?" pierre asks.

"that's what they all want you to think. i know y/n, and she wouldn't put herself in that position if she had a plan; she always has a plan."

"alright. but what happens if you're able to confirm she's uh...dead."

"i haven't thought about that, but she's not dead. trust me."
