Arielle’s POV

“Come on Arielle, time to get up you have training.” I hear my coach Mary-Anne say in my ear. “Uh what time is it?” I ask half asleep. “It’s five thirty and you need to get up now so we can go.” she says back, but doesn’t go anywhere yet. “Okay, okay I’m getting up, you can leave.” “I’m not going anywhere till you’re out of bed.” she says firmly and I sluggishly roll out of bed and into a heap on the floor before she pulls me up and forces me outside. “I told you to go to bed early did I not?” Mary-Anne scolds and I just nod tiredly.

“So what’s the plan?”  I ask Mary-Anne on the way to the track. “Well the games start tomorrow, so we’ll just warm up and practice your actual events, we only have four hours on the track this morning and then you have to go and start getting ready for the opening ceremony.” She replies and gets out her phone to make a call.

Now that I have a free minute I should introduce myself right? Well my name is Arielle Aubrey and I’m 18. I have dark brown hair with slight natural red tinge, brown eyes, tanned skin and am 5’6. I’m Australian and I am currently in London getting ready to compete in the London 2012 Olympics. I am taking part in three events, the 100m sprint, 200m sprint and the 4 x 100m relay. I stated running when I was six and have been training for the Olympics for pretty much my whole life. Competing in the Olympics has always been my dream and now I finally get the chance to live it.

“Okay on my count. Ready, set, go!” Mary-Anne yells and I shoot off from the starting line. I let my body take over me and I can feel the gush of wind in my face. This is the feeling I love, it makes me feel so free.

“Good job Arielle, run like that in your race and you’ll be fine.” Mary-Anne says while passing me my water bottle. By this time we have been at the stadium for just over four hours and it was time to leave, before we get kicked out. “Okay so you have two hours to yourself before you have to start getting ready. I suggest that you sleep, it’s going to be a late night.” Mary-Anne tells me. “Yeah okay.” I reply yawning. Mary-Anne is like my second mother, she tells me what to do and I listen, most of the time…

Back in the apartment I’m sharing with two other girls I decide to take Mary-Anne’s advice and go to sleep, it’s going to be a big night. I wake up to the sound of clanging in the kitchen. Who is that? I slowly get up and look at the time and see it’s 10.30am, before making my way out of the bedroom. I walk into the kitchen with my feet dragging but lighten up at the sight of Emma making food. “Hey sleepyhead did you just get up?” Emma asks cheerfully. “No I was up at 4.30 for training this morning.” I say back and pick up a tomato from the salad she has made. “Oh okay, hey what time do we have to go and get ready for the Opening Ceremony?” She asks while getting down two plates and cutlery. “Um I think we have to meet everyone at 11.15 at the front of the village and we’re going from there, but you might want to ask Caitlin.” I reply back and dish out my food. “Okay thanks, but where is Caitlin?” Emma asks me. “No clue..” I say and we finish our food before going into our own rooms to get ready. I have a quick shower and put on our team uniform before brushing my teeth and tying my hair up into a ponytail.

“You ready to go?” I call out from the lounge room and Caitlin walks out also wearing the team uniform and her light brown hair in a messy bun on top of her head. “Ready!” She exclaims and we wait until Emma walks out before heading downstairs.

Most of our team are already gathering around the entrance of the athlete’s village so we go and tell our guides we are here and wait for about ten more minutes before leaving. The afternoon consists of all us athletes getting ready into matching uniforms and going to the Olympic Stadium.

Finally the night falls and the ceremony starts. It’s not long until the voice over comes on saying “Now the Australian Team.” With that we all stand up a little straighter and walk out into the cool air. The atmosphere around us is incredible and completely indescribable, I can tell this will be by far the best experience of my life!
