Chapter 22 - Seventh Period: Reaper Time Part 1

After the events of two weeks ago, it's no surprise that our class' grades from the midterms would drop with the lack of studying. I myself retained my second-place position which was tied to the point with Karma. I was of course questioned by this, but I gave him my usual response of needing to kill--well, for the sake of comfortability, assassinate me first.

The day after we got the results, we directly went to the teacher's lounge after school and apologized directly to Mr. Karasuma for abusing what we learned in training. I was mostly in a daze about more important things however some of Nagisa's words did catch my attention, "It's not for our own money... or our grades. It reminded me that we can use the strength we've gained for others, too. If we have the power to kill, we can save the Earth. If we have academic ability, we can help someone."

It's not everyday that you hear the words "kill" and "save" in the same sentence without sounding like a madman. Then again, I suppose that is normal everyday occurrence in E class. If what they believe is correct, and they can kill to save the Earth, would they kill to save something smaller? A single life perhaps. Although ethics have never been my forte for obvious reasons, I wonder if they would be willing to sacrifice a life for life... Or would that be too cruel a bundle of lilies.

A few days after that, we received new equipment from the government. They must have much faith in the 28--I suppose including me makes 29, here if they can spend so much money and resources. The new uniforms are not only resistant to fire, but also stretch, shock, severance as well. The clothes are made extra light and the boots are reinforced so higher and lighter movements are possible. You can change the color of the uniform temporarily with paint thanks to its absorbing feature and the shock absorbent polyester protects the head, neck, and shoulders to name a few. Because of the exclusiveness given by the government, the stock prices for these would surely be at least a few million yen. That's enough of a reason for smugglers and assassins to target minors... though this is of the utmost secrecy, I should still keep a note of that.

Recently, I've been walking to and from school with someone from class--I mean, friends. Sometimes it would be with Toka and Kurhashi, other times Nakamura would abush me in front of my apartment, though most of the time I walk with Kayano since we're apparently close to each other. Both physically (in terms of living area) and emotionally is what she told me. I would even pass by Nagisa and Karma on a few occasions and we would walk and talk with each other. In contrast to those days however, today I am walking to school by myself. It is not as I had a quarrel with anyone, rather I texted the group of girls (that Kayano shared my number with) that I needed to get to school grounds especially early, so they could walk without me. Of course, there was opposition to my suspected wanting to make a distance, but I was able to convince them in the end with many 2am texts.

And to my words, I am especially early to class. Three hours to be accurate. Now, I didn't sacrifice my sleep just to see the sun rise though I did appreciate the view, instead I came to check the classrooms again. From the time Isogai and the other boys were having a meeting about the Sports Festival, I couldn't secure that classroom but now that everyone isn't here, I have time to do so.

Muting the music I was listening to just a second ago, I needed to be sure no one would see me for that would only cause more suspicion on my part. Entering the home room that I always did for class, I scanned the room for any traps as it never hurt to be too cautious. Seeing that it was clear, I took the same object that I put in the other classrooms in the left corner of the ceiling that was away from the door.

Despite it being a device, there was no need for me to install wires, instead, I simply need to place it somewhere and the radio waves do the rest. Similar to the device I attached to Asano in pole toppling which was later removed and placed under the chairman's desk, this flat undetectable device was the same only it was bigger and had a camera option.
