"Hey April." One of my business associates said as he walked into my office with a file folder and stopped in front of my desk. "Becca needs to sign this paperwork before she leaves for the day. I tried to talk to her but she's in a bitc--"
"Watch your mouth Jared." I said with a smirk "That's your boss you're talking about."
"You know it's true." He grumbled out as he set down the folder and waited for me to agree before he walked out of the office.
Becca is my best friend and co-CEO but she can be a bit grumpy sometimes today is one of those days. I don't blame her though her secretary Kate found her match and while everyone is happy for her it's hard for those of us still waiting. Becca and I grew up together took our tests together and found out we are caregivers together. We took our tests almost 9 years ago so by the time our littles take their test they are going to actually be little. We built our company from the ground so for the first few years we spent all of our time making ABT successful, but now that it is and it practically runs itself, all that we can focus on is the need to match with our babies.
"Cheer up buttercup!" I said as I walked into Becca's office with my tablet and the file folder in hand. "I know you're upset about Kate but you can't keep that frown on your face forever."
"I'm not upset about Kate." she said with a huff. "I just want to meet them so bad it aches. I thought I didn't want this April but the last couple of years they are all I can think about."
I tried not to laugh as I listened to her talk only because I felt the same way. I handed her the paperwork as we continued our conversation and then it happened. "Oh my God." Becca whispered as her bracelet beeped and 5 numbers appeared on her screen. It couldn't have been more than 5 minutes later when we heard the beep again and I looked down with big eyes to see 5 numbers on the screen of my bracelet. It was finally happening. I couldn't think straight as I watched Becca get on the phone to get the information we needed. I quickly booked us tickets on a flight to code 12 when Becca whispered the information to me. The flight left in an hour so we had no time to spare, we weren't even going to be able to run home and pack a bag.
When Becca handed me the phone I only heard the words "Maxwell Anderson." before I quickly grabbed my tablet and pulled up his profile barely holding back tears as I looked at the adorable freckle filled face of my baby.
"He's adorable." I heard Becca say and I looked up to see her looking over my shoulder "It says he's 5 foot 1 inch 110 ponds. Red hair and blue grey eyes." I whispered as we cooed over pictures of Max and the little girl he had been protecting from her father. "I hate that we have to seperate them." I told Becca.
"We don't have to, Rae's the girl in the picture." She said showing me the profile of her little Raelynn Carter "blond hair, green eyes, 5 feet 99 pounds." She said with tears in her eyes. And then it hit us Rae was the little girl Max is protecting. We ran out of the office and drove to the airport and flew on the most stressful but exciting plane ride ever. We rushed into the code 12 testing center and was led back to the little room where we found them sleeping in the corner.
Max woke up first and his startled gasp woke up Rae. They both looked at us with big eyes as Becca and I walked up and sat in front of them with a smile. "Hi guys." Becca said softly while smiling "My name is Becca, and this is my Best friend April." She said pointing at me.
"You guys are probably pretty scared right now, and that's okay." I said, "But we do have some news that I think you might be excited about."I said with a soft smile "I'm your caregiver Maxwell and Becca" I paused before looking at Rae. "Is yours Raelynn." I said.
Both their eyes got big as they looked back and forth between both of us before Maxwell asked, "S s seriously?"
"Seriously." Becca said holding out her bracelet. I held out mine and we waited a few seconds before Maxwell slowly held out his wrist and Raelynn followed. "We are so excited to meet you guys. We have been waiting a long time."
