Jasper sat at his desk trying to ease his thoughts once again. Usually, he was just paranoid, but this time was different. He brushed his hands over the files he's been going through.
" Why would the enemy take a huge risk by taking the Zodiac into custody," he spoked to himself. Although the Zodiac did, however, possess extensive knowledge on all their projects, it would be very difficult to force that out of them. The Zodiac are masters at manipulating the truth in case of incidents like this.
What bothered Jasper the most was the enemy knows this as well. During the last year, the enemy was able to get some reports on their training programs, which included Zodiac training. With this knowledge, the enemy knows that any information the Zodiac gives them would be a liability. " So why? Other than being used for bargaining chip and putting our communication channel in a uproar, they possess no significant value." Jasper turned over a folder that showed a fox symbol. That's when a thought struck him.
" So that's it! They're actually targeting Shadow!" It finally became clear. Jasper quickly went to his filing cabinet and pull out and old mission report. It was one Shadow done a few months ago. The file contain information on new Nameless One. It couldn't be completed because they lack something, unknown at the time, to continue the project. It was put on hold. Now Jasper knew why. They needed Shadow's genetic structure to complete their research.
That wasn't the worse part. Shadow was still a free agent without a chip in him to control him. If they took control of Shadow with the information he possess, then it's game over. This whole time the enemy was setting the field for a checkmate on this war and Jasper just cleared the way for it.
Jasper pick up the phone and quickly tried to contact Shadow. It didn't ring. No doubt he turned it off so no one could detect him on the mission. " I have to get them to turn that damn helicopter around!" But at the moment it was useless. With everyone busy and resting up, he barely had the available assets that are efficient enough to go after them.
Well he did have one way. "Looks like I will have to go myself." As soon as the words left his mouth, Chelsea came into the room. Her happy demeanor changed as she saw Jasper's tensed features. He almost look like he could have had a heart attack.
" Did I come at a bad time," Chelsea ask. Jasper took a moment to compose himself. " Perfect timing actually. I have to go out for a few days and I need you to keep an eye on the place."
" But I can't run everything." " Don't worry. All you need to do is dispatch the troops in two days. Also I need to get some weapons and change of clothing. Do you mind helping me get some?" Chelsea thought a minute to herself. Something about her face said she would regret what she's about to tell him.
"Actually I know where to find the perfect gear just right for you."
Moments later they were in Shadow's room. "Why would we be borrowing Shadow's things? We should have an armory," Jasper asked. Chelsea went over to the bookshelf and pulled a book from the top corner. Behind it was a switch. When she pushed the button, a shelf came out of the wall that showed a complete set of gear.
Jasper look shocked. " Impressive, but I can't wear this." If this belong to Shadow than his frame would rip it apart. "Oh yes you can," Chelsea said throwing him the black pair of pants. When they unfolded in his hands, Jasper realizes the length of them... It was a perfect fit. Not just the pants. The shirt, the jacket, even the shoes were perfect. Not to mention that this clothing was made from genetically enhanced silk. It was soft to the touch, but strong enough to stop a bullet. Although getting hit would hurt like hell.
"And don't forget these," Chelsea said once Jasper has finish getting dressed. It was a special set of weapons. No guns, but these weapons were the only one that Jasper really knew how to use.
" How did you know about all of this?" Jasper really wanted to know. " Well I wanted to read a book and I'm out. So I headed here to borrow one of Shadow's. Needless to say I found this after all of that." Jasper look down from the black jacket to the black shoes. This was way to perfect to just be made for anyone.
" What are you not telling me," Jasper asked her. He knew that there was a bigger story here than what she told him. " I found this when there was nothing but just a half finish shirt."
" Half finished?" "Yea. The shirt was made by hand. So were the rest of the stuff. Every so often I would come back here and see more added in there. Piece by piece. Even the weapons were put together by hand. At first I thought it was just a hobby, but I guess it's not."
Jasper put his hands inside the jacket and found a pair of black gloves. One the back of each one, there were two kids. The kid on the left glove had a gold mark on his arm. The kid on the left had a silver one.
Just looking at the gloves made Jasper think of something he never really thought of... " Maybe he made these just in case of an emergency. I am the only one with battle gear here so..." Before he could say anything else, Chelsea interrupted him. "Then why hasn't he gone down to the armory and pick out you a set? How come he sat in here putting all this stuff together, by himself, and all by hand?" "For security purposes..." Chelsea shook her head. " And I suppose those gloves were specially made to confuse the N.Os?" Jasper put the gloves on his hands and open his palm. That's when he notice something. He brought his hands closer together and saw that the two kids appeared to be holding hands. ' Friends Forever' This was what came to Jasper mind. Shadow actually did care...then why did he try so hard to push Jasper away? Why keep him at a distance if he treasured their friendship?
" No Chelsea. Its because we are friends. Long story short, it's a childhood thing." Jasper walk out the room fully geared up and ready to take on the world.
But he still wanted to know why Shadow kept his distance when he still value him as a friend. As soon as he could, Jasper planned on getting some answers.
