Callie's POV

I looked at the woman standing in front of me. She looked like she was black. She was wearing a suit. She looked at the social worker, David. He wasn't my normal social worker. Bill was Jude and I's social worker. "Where is Bill?" I asked, breaking the silence between the three of us. "He's busy handling another case," David said. I just looked at him and then back at the woman standing in front of me.

"David, can I talk to you on the side for a minute?" The woman asked, after a moment. He nodded and they both walked a few feet away from me and whispered. I could tell the woman was afraid of me. It was probably because of the cut on my lip and the bruise on the side of my side.

Just before I got released, the girls in juvie decided to beat me up because they knew I was getting released. It was painful. They kicked me in my stomach multiple times and my back. It took the guards to come and get the girls off of me. I could barely get up. Every step I take, I feel the pain.

I'm glad I'm out juvie though. I'm not like those other girls. They're in jail for stealing, selling drugs or beating up people. I'm only got put in jail because my stupid foster father was beating up my little brother, Jude and I was trying to stop him. He kicked me in the stomach, so I got really mad and took his baseball bat and hit his car. He called the police on him and said I was crazy. That's the only reason I was put in juvie.

David and the woman walked back over to me. "Callie, you're going to go with Lena. She's going to be your temporary foster mother. You should fit well in the foster home," David explained. I looked at Lena. She gave a small smile at me. "Come on, Callie we're going to head home," she said. "Wait, where's Jude? Is he still with our foster dad?" I asked, before following Lena to her car. David replied, "Well, I believe he is still with your foster father, but Bill knows that information. I can check with Bill later to find out." I nodded. I really didn't want to have Jude stuck at that house. Who knows what that man could be doing to him? I turned back toward the car and got in Lena's small car.
