Callie's POV

We had been staying with The Fosters for a month now. I could tell Jude was happy here. Surprisingly, Mariana played with Jude and talked to him a lot. It was nice to see Jude happy. It had been a while since we'd been a good foster home with nice people. Jude had been going to Anchor Beach in the middle school and he had a new friend named, Connor. I never kept him from having friends. I just always hoped he wouldn't get hurt like I did.

One morning, we were all sitting at the table eating breakfast before school, when Jude asked if he could invite Connor over so they could work on their science project together. It brought a smile to my face to know how happy he was to have a friend. Jude was really social. He was quiet and a little shy. I was suprised when he first told me about Connor. He hadn't had a friend since the third school we had been in. "Sure, sweetie," Lena said. Jude was smiling from east to west.

At school, I had only talk to one person besides the Foster kids. That was Wyatt. He was in my English class and we both had to sit with Timothy, our English teacher because we hadn't did the writing assignment that he assigned the class. Wyatt was quiet in class like me. He had long blonde hair and pretty blue eyes. We had talked about the assignment Timothy had forced us to do which I really hated. He seemed like a nice guy, but I didn't really say much to him.

"Callie, you made any friends yet?" Stef asked. Everyone looked at me waiting for me to answer like I was answering how to save the human race. "Not really. I usually stay by myself." Everyone continued eating their food after I said that. "Well, would you be open to getting to know some people?" Lena asked. "You've been at the school for a month now. It would be good to have some people to hang out with. I looked down at my cereal and said, "I don't know. Most people know I came from juvie I think, so I'm mostly an outsider." Lena looked at be with a sympathetic face. I just shrugged and took a bit of my toast.

After everyone finished breakfast, I quickly went upstairs and grabbed my bag. Stef and Lena had moved me into Mariana's room and we shared a room together. Jude shared a room with Jesus. Mariana wasn't really rude to me like she was in the beginning, but she also wasn't social. I guess she was beginning to become friendly, but it didn't bother me. I was used to being in a foster home where the kids didn't really like you.

Everyone piled into the car with Lena and we were off to another day of school. When we got out of the car, Brandon said, "Hey Callie, you wanna come up to the music room for a bit? I wanted to show you something." I was suprised he was inviting me to go somewhere with him. For the past couple of weeks, I had notice his girlfriend, Talya was spending every moment she could with him. I could tell she was trying to send me a message saying don't mess with Brandon. It wasn't like I was interested in him. She had nothing to worry about. "Yeah, I guess," I said.

I followed him up to the music room. The last time I had been in the music room was my first day at Anchor Beach. It looked the same as it did the first day.

"I remember you saying that you played a little guitar. So I wanted to see what you could do," he said. He took a seat in front of the keyboard. "Just grab the guitar right there." I looked at thim puzzled. "We can just play these instruments?" I asked. He nodded. I grabbed the guitar being careful with it. I sat the guitar across my lap and put my fingers on the fretboard. I was just trying to remember the few chords my mom had taught me when I was younger. I put on the E, A and E string and strummed it a couple of times. I played the G chord a few times trying to get my ear familar with the sound. I moved my fingers to play the A chord and then the D chord. "You know the basic chords," Brandon commented. I nodded. "I knew some other ones, but I just can't remember them." "Well, it's been a while. You'll remember them soon." I continued to play the chords. I began to change the rhythm. From A to D, D to A, and A to G. "You sound like a musician," Brandon said with a smile on his face. "I'm not though. You're the one that's a musician. I'm just playing a few chords," I said. I continued to play for a while.

Then I looked outside into the courtyard. The courtyard only had a few student lingering around. This meant it was almost time for homeroom. I put the guitar back on it's guitar stand and Brandon and I rushed to homeroom. We sat down just as the bell began to ring.

I saw Talya look at me and think look at Brandon. She probably thought we had been doing something. I wasn't the type of person to steal someone's boyfriend. To me, Talya should be looking at Brandon. He was the one always staring at me and starting conversations with me. I looked down at my desk and waited for homeroom to end.

Lena's POV

I was looking through the names of the people that had applied to Anchor Beach for next school year. It was over eight hundred people. Eight hundred people that would be put through the lottery process. And over half of these people would be put on the waiting list.

It made me think about Callie and Jude. They were lucky enough to go to this charter school without having to go through the lottery process. They would receive a quality education. The two of them were sweet kids.

Jude was the sweetest. He was always trying to help out around the house and he was always saying thank you. I had watched him class a couple of times interacting with the kids. Connor was really friendly to him. I liked that he had built a relationship with someone his age.

Callie was a great sister to her brother. She was very protective of him and was always showing him love. I could tell Callie had been through some stuff in the pass. When I first saw Callie, I thought she was a trouble maker and that was why she was being moved from one home to the next, but Callie really hadn't been trouble for us at all. She made sure to keep her area of her room clean and she always cleared the table for me at dinner. I had seen her a couple of times at lunch. She was always sitting alone in the courtyard or on the beach. I felt bad for her. From the two times that she had talked about making friends, I could tell she was protecting herself. She wasn't open like her brother. It was obvious that it would take a lot to gain her trust.

I looked at the clock. I decided to take my lunch break. I walked to my car and went to a small cafe to grab a sandwhich. I took out my phone and called Stef. "Hey babe, I just wanted to see how work was going. I'm on my lunch break. Call me back when you can," I said, talking to the answer machine. I sat in my car and ate my sandwhich. It was a nice, sunny day like most of the days in San Diego. I always enjoyed the nice weather.

I drove back to the school and watched as some of the kids exited the school building and headed to the courtyard and the beach. I sat in my car waiting to see Callie come out. After most of the kids came out, Callie came and sat at her normal spot. I got out the car and walked over to her. "Hey Callie, you mind if I sit with you?" I asked. She shook her head. I sat beside her on the bench. She took out her lunch and took a bite of her sandwhich. "How is school going?" I asked. She took a few bites before swallowing the bite of her sandwhich and said, "It's good. Anchor Beach is probably the best school I've been to." That was good to hear. I was happy that she was happy to be at Anchor Beach. "Timothy told me that you were having trouble with one of his assignments," I said, hoping to get her to talk. "Yeah, it was a writing assignment where we had to write about some situation that we regret. I'm just not good at writing down my feelings. That's all." I nodded. "Well, I've been looking at your grades. You're a pretty smart girl. You got an A in math and a C in English," I said. "I try to get good grades. My mom used to help me before she died. She was really smart," she said. She was talking about her mom. This was the second time I her about her mom. The only other time I heard about her mom was that she died in the accidnet that her dad caused because he was drunk. "Well, I just thought I would sit and talk to you for a while. I gotta get back to work. I'll see you later," I said. She nodded and continued to eat her lunch.

I walked back to my office happy. Callie was beginning to open up a little more. Before she would only give you small answers that wouldn't tell you much about her. I smiled as I walked into my office. I took a seat at my desk and got back to work.
