There is never anything positive on the news.
I don’t like watching something, that just wind up depressing me the rest of the day. But, as a teenager under eighteen, don’t have the freedom to boycott the news from my life. My dear father has control of the remote like always. Has had control over since he found me. probably long before then knowing my mother.
My father is an avid watcher of the informative television. Blah. He likes to have the news playing as he gets ready to leave for work. I try to ignore, but like everyone else, I have two ears, and they can hear everything. Yay.
“…In other news we have just received notice that our world ruler is retiring from the throne. King Merak had been enthroned for over forty years.  He was always a generous and kind but iron fisted king. He will be dearly missed.” The newscaster said towards the camera on her right. Turning her head to the center,” Now, the question on everyone’s head is, who will take the throne? Who will rule over the world? Who will keep us safe?”
    Damn. Good fucking question.
“There are some people worried that the king’s heir might be his nephew, believing with him crowned will bring the end of the world as we know. There has been some rumors that the king has sent out a group of mercenaries. Hoping that this time they will find anything about the lost princess. For one last chance at having his heir that was stolen from us so many years ago.”
I was captivated. The story of the lost princess is one everyone of Elohi knows by heart. I t was a dark time when the queen was killed shortly after giving birth to the princess.
While king was out due to a problem in the capital. Bandits were harassing the outer towns. As our beloved king was away, one of the bandits snuck into the royal bed chambers the slit the throat of the slumbering queen.
The poor princess was still sleeping in her arms, when the despicable bandit wrenched the babe from the once warm arms and fled the castle.
When the king came back, everyone in the world of Elohi felt the sorrowful roar of the mighty dragon king as he held his queen. They also felt the enraged promise to gain back his whelp and punish the one who enacted the heinous deed. The king spared no expense or solider for the search of his one child. But, time grew hard and he had to pull back his forces, for the wellbeing of the kingdom.
Many years passed, seventeen to be exact, and no one has heard or seen anything concerning the lost royal.
Even though, he was distraught and you could still see the grief in his eyes, he stayed strong for his subjects. He watched over everyone, big or small, from the small gnomes and sprites, to the large Minotaur and dragons. Everyone was safe.  But now that he was retiring what happens to all that.
“Aren’t you cutting it a little close, Reina?” My father asked he walked in, fixing his tie. I looked behind me at the clock on the oven.
“Oh shit! I’m going to miss the bus!” I jumped up, kissed dad’s cheek, avoided mom’s disapproving look, grabbed my bag and ran out the door.
“Have a good day!” I heard them yell behind me. I rolled my eyes. How good will the first day at a new school be? Plus, I haven’t shown signs of my creature. The only person that will make this better is if my best friend from our hometown on the other side of world came with me.
I sighed as I finally made to the bus stop, just in time for the bus to arrive. The bus driver swung open the doors.
“Are ya ready for this?” he asked. I looked at him and then the faces peering out of the windows. Here we go.
     Pray for me.
