A/n: I realize my prologue might be too dull but I only wanted to give you some insight and some obvious clues to what my main character is but not too much. I have planned a few unknowns into my story, so please stick around to find out.
You know those movies when the main character gets on the bus and no one seems to have an open seat for them to sit? I literally feel like a high school rom-com cliché. I could feel everyone eyes on my back as I made my way to the only empty seat I can see. My collar was slowly becoming too cold for me.
Keeping my head down, I made my way to my seat and scooted as close to the window as I could. Leaning my head against the window, I watched the houses turn into speeding vehicles on the highway. Soon I will be in hell- I mean, school. Same thing in my book…
Apparently, my bus stop was the last one on the route. Great. I was hoping to have some time to myself to regain my nerves before entering those white tile halls. I must have been far off into wonderland, because I did not realize someone was staring at me, or that they were currently right next to me. I slowly turned my head around and was met with pink. Lot and lots of pink.
I must have had a funny look on my face because she let out a high-pitched little giggle.
“Whoa…” I was amazed someone could get that much pink on such a little body. She was obviously a sprite. She was very short in stature and had short curly pink hair that was barely being held back by a, you guessed it, pink headband. There was a dusty pink rose on the left side of headband, matching the floral pink sundress she was currently wearing. She had pink sparkly ballet slippers adorning her feet. She presented me with one of those presidential mega-watt smiles.
“Hi! My name is Erin! Are you new?” she asked. Before I could even answer her, she interrupted me. “Of course you are new! Duh! Like I would have remembered you, if you went to our school! I love your hair! Is it natural?”
Breathe woman! I waited a bit before answering her question. It was a common question anyway. I have been born with white almost silver hair. I have let grown out to the top of my butt. I always thought I could be albino with my hair and skin color. I was so pale. But my eyes weren’t red, they were an ice blue.
“Yes, my hair is natural. My name is Reina, I just moved here last week, so today is my first day,” I stated. I glanced at the other patrons on the bus and noticed that I had an audience. I ducked behind the seat in front of me. I noticed it had two guys sitting there, brothers most definitely, they had the same wolf ears standing erect on top of their heads. They looked so soft, I almost succumb to the urge to stroke one of them, but I don’t think that will be good on to do on your first day school. Yeah. I don’t want to be donned a pervert when I just got here.
“So, what’s your merge?” at this the bus went quiet. Um, noisy much. I swallowed the pooling saliva in my mouth.
“Um, not sure yet. My father says I should know once I turned 18.” She visibly started at the beginning of my answer, but perked back up at the end.
“So, you are an unique!” she squealed, clapping her hands. “We only had one other unique, and that was the royal nephew.”
Unique? What the heck? I guess my confusion was on plain on my face, because she giggled.
“Unique is what we call those who merge late.” She tapped her chin,” mostly, it the powerful merges that merge late. Like dragons, loch nessies, or even giants.”
“Huh. Go figure.”
“So, when is your birthday?”
“September 16.” She gasped.
“That’s tomorrow! Oh my god! So exciting!”
I smiled, her energy is contagious. I have to admit I am a little nervous about merging. Since I am adopted, I have no clue I could be, so I going into blind. Erin kept talking to me the rest of the bus ride. She informed me what teachers to lookout for, who’s in what clique and who is trustworthy to her. I kind of zoned out after that, but stayed tuned in enough to know when to nod. So you knew she had my rapt attention.
All too soon, we arrived at the school front gates. The school is much bigger than the picture online. I only had pictures to go by, because my mom wanted me to start as soon as we arrived so she registered me online while we were still in the other town.
I took a big breathe and followed Erin off the bus. When I stepped off, I craned my neck back to look at the huge monstrosity called a school before me. Right in front of the front stairs was a huge statue of the first Dragon king. Of course. The school of the capital of the world would have his statue.
“I will see in class Reina, I need to go turn in this report I had to do for a retake. See ya~!” I waved her off, and started my way across the front courtyard, making sure not to run into, or step on, anyone. I started dazing out, just coming up with different scenarios on how today can go.
I was brought out of my musings, by a rough shove from behind. My jacket was suddenly too warm to wear. Turning around to see what hit me, I was met with a pair of glowing orange eyes, reminding of a setting sun on the horizon.
“I am so sorry, ma’am. I was not paying attention.” It was then I noticed the football in his hand. “My friend has a good arm.” He laughed, rubbing the back of his neck, with a nice little flush dusting across his cheeks. His sun kissed dimpled cheeks. Cute.
“Dude! Throw it back!” another male voice called to them, heavy with an accent I couldn’t quiet place yet. The voice ran over. ”Come on mate, I thought we… were… playing… hello there pretty las.” He smirked at me, throwing his arm over his biddies shoulder. He pal rolled his eyes, and shrugged the extra weight of him.
“Dude, subtle much.” His friend just shrugged.
“I call them as I sees them.” I laughed at that, but quickly chocked when two sets of arms wrapped around my shoulders and waist.
“What a good eye,” one began.
“You possess, Sloan.” One ended, sarcastically I might add. “She rode behind on the school bus. Her name is Reina, and yes everything is natural.” I gasped and burned red. It was so hot, I swear there was steam coming out of my ears. I jumped away from their arms and turned so I was facing all four of them.
“Who are you?” I asked, flustered.
“Well, my name is Sloan, as they have already mentioned and my merge is a Loch Nessie. He smirked. It was then I noticed he had a water collar on his neck. Bubbles was coming out of the slits in his throat as he breathed. Gills. An aquatic monster. Cool.
“My name is Fuego Mandra. Mandy for short. And my merge is a fire salamander.” That explains the sudden heat wave when he is close. The twins stepped up, I could feel the heat go away, making it comfortable again.
“We are the Ice wolf twins. My name is Vilkatas Ulfur, and this is my younger twin brother-“
“By one minute! Anyway, my name is Vilkatis Ulfur.” Both boys had the same blue silverfish hair, along with the same color ears on top of their heads and the long bushy tail swinging in tandem behind them. All four of them were attractive.
Sloan walked up to me and grabbed my hand.
Kissing my hand he asked me, “What is your name, milady?” I blushed darker than before.
“M-My name is- um, is Reina Drake. I haven’t um- haven’t merged yet. My birthday-“my stuttering was interrupted.
“Is tomorrow.” The twins said at once. “Hard to ignore everything, while a wolf, especially if they are right behind you.”
“Right.” I said shyly.
At that moment the bel rang. Shit! I needed to still to go to the office!
“I got to go, um- see yall later.”
With that I ran up the steps and thru the door. The main office was off to the right of the entrance. Looking back over my shoulder, I noticed all four of them were still staring after me. They held eye contact all the way until the door closed. I took a big breathe and headed inside the office.
I am already tired and I just walked into the damn building.
