When she was back, she wondered.

She could remember if she tried. Or maybe the key was green? Yes, they were beautiful. Shiney, like moonlight.

She pressed her hands to her head in hopes of banishing the stray thoughts. Her head was a jumbled mess, a few things bleeding through.

She knew green was the key. Green eyes. Key. But she didn't know anything else.

She was interrupted by a sound. The door next to her opened, and a blue-eyed man ran in. Distantly, she remembered him, but from where, she didn't know. Must've been during the darkness.

"Hello," she whispered hoarsely. The man stared at her, terror screaming its name. His hair was in a buzz cut, but she could see the graying parts. His blue eyes were searching, scanning, assessing. He was wearing a parka, which she swore she had seen somewhere, but she couldn't remember. She could see the hint of a gun, but she almost wished he'd just shoot her.

"Who the hell are you?"

"I don't know," she answered just as quietly. She sighed, fighting the tears that wanted to overwhelm her. She didn't know anything anymore.

"Are you okay?"

She looked at him, a slight smile gracing her features for the first time it... she didn't even know.

Then they attacked. The demons in her head. The screamed and clawed, raking their sharp nails down her head. She couldn't scream, just like usual, so she crawled away from the man in search of her glass, silently begging for relief.

When she found it, the demons attacked again, harder. She barely refrained from screaming, but she couldn't stop an almost silent gasp. Surprisingly, the man heard it and scooted closer.

"Are you okay?"

She shook her head silently as she grabbed the glass. She pulled up the sleeves on her smiley face shirt and was shocked by the purple there. That wasn't normal, was it? But another attack and she didn't care.

It seemed to hurt more than usual, but she didn't care. She didn't know how.

For some reason, though, the man seemed to.

He yanked her hand away and ripped the glass shard out of it, his anger only shown by his flashing eyes and his shaking hands.

"What the hell are you doing?"

She flinched at his tone, but then they hit again, and she reached. She reached for her only sense of hope, of comfort, of happiness, silently begging the man to give it.

He shook his head, standing up to his full height, which she was nowhere near. She wouldn't be able to get it.

Then it just... hit her.

Everything and everyone was gone. Even her only friend was now above her head, unable to come down.

She hadn't done it in... well, she didn't know that, either, but still. She cried. She broke down and sobbed like a baby.

The man stood awkwardly in the corner for a moment before pulling on a piece of wood above her head. It came loose, offering just enough room for the glass. She couldn't reach it unless she went up the stairs, which she couldn't do.

"What's wrong, honey?"

He sat down next to her. His hands fidgeted for a moment as if he didn't know where to place them until one finally landed on her shoulder. She flinched away from the contact, seeing as how unused to it she was, but when he started to pull away, she grabbed it and held it in place. It was the only thing grounding her right now.
