Asher's POV

Rosalie Hale was different. She was an enigma. She didn't have the personality of a Northsider. But she also wasn't a Southside girl either. She was just...her. A puzzle that I was eager to put together. A mystery I ached to solve.

I couldn't take my eyes off of her most of Biology. I just wanted to try and figure her out. She was so different. So beautiful. I needed to know her. I don't know why but I felt like my entire world would crumble without her in my life.

It was halfway through the class when she spoke again. The teacher had just given us a homework assignment and told us we could begin it in class. Rosalie was writing in her notebook, possibly working on the assignment but my eyes remained on her.

She shot me a look out of nowhere, it was a cross of annoyance and curiosity, "What?" She questioned sharply and I smirked slightly, shrugging my shoulders casually.

"I'm just trying to understand you, Princess," I said simply, leaning my arms against the table and keeping my eyes on her.

"Well, don't," she snapped and looked back at her book.

"Why not?" I questioned, my eyes furrowing in confusion as a frown found its place on my lips.

"You don't want to know me," she said, her voice losing a bit of its sharpness. My frown deepened as I looked at her, with narrowed eyes.

"That's where you're wrong, Princess," I said firmly, "I don't know why, but I find myself drawn to you, Rosalie Hale. I want to know everything about you and it's only been half an hour. I want to know what makes you smile, what makes you tick. I want to know what makes you, you."

A frown took over Rosalie's features and I feared that I had said something wrong. The bell rang and she closed her book silently, refusing to meet my eyes. She stood up from her stool and held her books to her chest. She faced away from me and cleared her throat.

"Firstly, I am not a princess," she turned to look at me, her normally light golden eyes a slightly darker shade of gold, "I'm the villain," she said simply before leaving the classroom in a hurry. I frowned as I watched her disappear out of the class. I quickly gathered my books, rushing out of the classroom as well but once I stepped out into the hall I couldn't find her anymore.

I looked up and down the hall, but she had disappeared in the crowd of hundreds. I sighed in annoyance as I made my way to my next class. As I walked into my History class, I was met by Eric who was sitting in the middle row with another Southsider named, Julia.

I sat down beside Eric and set my books down. I looked around the classroom and noticed that two of the Cullens were in this class. It was Rosalie's twin, Jasper and the bigger one, Emmett. They sat in the far back, away from everyone. They seemed to be talking to one another in hushed tones. I was curious as to what they could be talking about.

"How was Biology?" Eric asked, drawing my attention from the two male Cullens. I looked over at my friend and shrugged casually as I put my arms behind my head.

"Same old, I guess," I answered vaguely. I didn't very well want to tell my friend that I had struck out with Rosalie Hale. I didn't want anyone to know I had even talked to her. I didn't want to hear it and get shit from the Northsiders for talking to "one of them" and I definitely didn't want to hear it from the fellow Southsiders.

"Julia said you were talking with Rosalie Hale," Eric responded and I frowned, giving Julia a glare as I looked at her. She just smiled innocently at me and shrugged.

"So? What of it?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I warned you, Ash. The Cullens don't like to be messed with. They don't talk to anyone. Not even their fellow Northsiders. How do you think a Northsider will feel if they find out you talked to someone they can't even get to?" Eric questioned, "You just got back. Do you really want to start a war over some girl?"

"No one is starting a war over anything, Eric," I rolled my eyes silently, "I talked to her. So what? Besides I think this Northside, Southside crap is just that. Crap. It's a new decade. Shouldn't we put all of that stuff behind us?"

"Put it behind us?" Eric questioned, raising a single eyebrow, "Asher, this is Oakridge. There will always be a Northside and Southside. We will always be at odds with one another. Southsiders don't get the girl, we don't get the good jobs, and we don't step out of our comfort zones. We stick to our side and the Northside sticks to theirs. It's how it's always been it's how it'll always be. You and Rosalie Hale are like fire and ice. Opposites on two different parts of the spectrum. Don't try it. Or you'll end up getting us all in trouble."

I sighed at my best friend's words. I knew he was right. Even though Rosalie lived outside of town, she still lived near the Northside. She was a Northsider, even if she didn't claim them. They claimed her family and that was it. They were apart of the group of the rich and I was apart of the poor. We were opposites.

But I still couldn't help the way I feel. Ever since I laid eyes on her that morning, I was determined to get to know Rosalie Hale. I knew the Cullens cared little about Northside or Southside. They ignored everyone equally, but I needed to get to know her.

"Okay. I'll let it go," I lied through my teeth. Eric looked at me as if he knew I was lying but be didn't say anything, probably choosing to believe me rather than start a fight. He turned to face the front of the room when our teacher walked in.

I felt eyes on the back of my head and I turned to see Emmett Cullen and Jasper Hale staring at me. I offered a small smile and a single nod of my head. Jasper nodded once as well, his eyes narrowed slightly at me. Emmett returned with a nod of his own as well, throwing in a big grin.

I turned my head to face the board yet again. At least one Cullen seemed to like me alright.
