Discord walked through Ponyville in his new disguise. Almost every mare he passed stared at him. Some of their jaws even dropped, eyes widening and irises getting smaller as they caught sight of his handsome new form.

Chaos Theory strutted through the town in radiant pride, walking in a confident way that put Prince Blueblood to shame. He scanned every mare. Many were attractive, sure. But none really caught his eye.

Come on, he thought to himself, shaking his head and focusing. Is it really this hard for normal stallions? How am I supposed to-

He was caught mid-thought by bumping into another pony.

It was a lavender mare, with short, purple-pink bangs and large, curious, valiant purple eyes that glinted in the bright light of day. Long, thing wings fluttered at her sides, and a short space in her mane was cut by a horn.

Also known as Princess Twilight Sparkle.

"Oh! Sorry, sir," she said with a nervous laugh.

"You're perfectly fine." Discord said. He coughed for a moment, adjusting the small white collar that sat around his neck. "Princess Twilight Sparkle, I presume?" He had nearly forgotten that he had to act like he didn't know her already.

The Princess began picking up a few of the books she was carrying, which her magic had dropped when she ran into him. "Yes. But please, call me Twilight."

"Here, let me help you with those." Chaos Theory took up some of the many books in his magic, lifting the thick tomes with ease. He chuckled. "Where are you off to with so many books?"

"I was just heading back to my library in the castle. I have an entire library to reorganize, and I just bought a couple more books at the store."

"Do you need a few helping hooves? I'd be happy to oblige," Chaos Theory pressed.

"Oh, if you want to. I mean, Spike is pretty helpful, but most of the time he just falls asleep in the middle of it." Twilight punctuated her sentence with an adorable little giggle.

"Yes, well," he said, continuing past her. "Some will do as such. Not many have such an interest in books as you do, Twilight. It's sad, really, that ponies do not have much want for studying such complicated subjects as magic."

Twilight trotted alongside him, leading him to the castle doors. "You think so?"

"Of course! I love studying as much as you do."

"Oh. Now that's rare."

Twilight reached the castle and trotted lightly up the steps. She threw open the doors, stepping aside to allow Chaos Theory inside. She closed them behind her. She blushed, actually, momentarily noticing the confident sway of his strong flanks. But she turned her head away. She lead him to the library, saying not a word until the doors of the grand room were opened.

"Wow, Twilight," Chaos Theory said, pressing a resigned hoof to his chest. "This is most impressive, even for an alicorn. What a large collection."

She blushed, turning her head downwards. "It's nothing, really."

Chaos laughed a long, hearty laugh. "Nothing? Nothing?! Understatement of the century, my dear! Anyway, we have organizing to do, so let us begin. Organizing such a vast library will take several hours at least."

So, they began organizing. Like Chaos had said, it did take several hours, but it gave them ample time to get to know each other.  They talked and laughed, and even got to have some serious conversation. Then again, it was always ended with light-hearted banter. Chaos Theory dispelled many a doubt that Twilight had about him. And other things.

While sorting through the piles of books that Twilight had set out, Chaos turned to her.

"Twilight, might I ask you a serious question?" he asked lightly.

She pricked her ears. "Yes?"

"Have you...Have you ever been in love?"

Twilight stopped, turning, sullenly and wide-eyed to him. "What?"

"Have you ever had..." Chaos Theory laughed quietly, placing a gentle hoof on his chest. "Allow me to rephrase that. Have you ever had a special somepony? Or at least thought about it?"

Twilight sat down, looking downwards in thought. "Not particularly. I've never considered it in my future."

"Such a shame. I've seen many a stallion staring at you as you walk through town."

Twilight blushed, trying to hide behind her short bangs. "Really? I..."

"You're a beautiful pony, Twilight. A beautiful mare." He turned back to the books, smiling over his shoulder at her. "You have features and attributes to your character that a stallion can only dream of."

She pulled on her mane. "I...Thank you, Chaos Theory. That means a lot to me."

"I'm not the only stallion that thinks so highly of you. All of Equestria thinks so much of you. You have so much potential."  He sat on a large pile of pillows in the center of the room. Patting the pillow beside him, he gestured for her to sit beside him. "Tell me, do you have feelings for anypony?"

She reluctantly sat next to his strong figure. "Are you sure you want to...discuss this?"

"I'm an expert when it comes to love, my dear. Princess Cadance isn't the only professional in her field." He chuckled, lightening the mood in the room.

"Well, I never really had much time to think about it. I was always busy studying for Celestia, or trying to ace my classes."

"You have never truly thought about the subject of love as important, have you?"

"Well, not only did I not have time for it, but I always thought I would disappoint any potential lovers. I never thought of myself as important, or worthy of any stallion." Her face sank.

Chaos Theory placed a soft hoof under her chin, raising her eyes to meet his. "You should never think so lowly of yourself. You're a princess. Do you think Celestia never had confidence in herself? Of course she did. She had her doubts. She had her misunderstandings and mistakes in her lifetime. It even shows in her unfortunate banishing of her sister. But she always managed to triumph. She always managed to overcome her misfortunes and overcome her sadness, because she had to rule an entire kingdom. She had to address publicly her subjects' issues and solve quickly their problems. But she always managed to compromise when a fork appeared in the road. You are a princess, just like she is. You have to hold yourself high. You are welcome to doubt. But you must always have confidence in yourself."

Twilight smiled at him, watching as his grin slowly spread across his face. "You are perfectly worthy of every stallion in Equestria," he continued. He leaned closer to her. "Myself included."

As her face flushed crimson, he rose, turning his flanks to her as he began to organize another section. "Come now, my dear. This library won't sort itself!" He shot forth a hoof in triumph, Twilight giggling behind him.

As she smiled, turning back to begin on another stack of books, Chaos smirked. "Soon," he said to himself. His eyebrows rose, and he smiled wider.

Author's note

Sorry I've been away for so long, as well. Well, 'away' as defined by myself, which is, at most, two days. I got in trouble. That's all. I might not have much time to work on my stories besides weekends. Thanks for reading!
