Discord couldn't believe it.
How was it that Twilight was without a stallion? Impossible. Many were very much willing to obsess and be with the princess of friendship. Of course, it would never be discussed around his true form, but he had heard many times, as Twilight walked through town, stallions complementing her lilac form.
Chaos theory watched the ponies traverse the town. He lifted his nose, taking in the scent of the flowers of the park and woods around him. He sat in a chair outside a restaurant, sipping a small glass of a drink that was a little sweet for his taste, but nonetheless enjoyable. He smiled as he took yet another small gulp of his drink.
In the distance, he saw the shimmering form of Twilight's crystal castle. Its gleam attracted much attention and tourists. Ponyville was getting more bits out of tourism now than farming or anything else, and it was all thanks to Twilight.
And him, of course.
It wasn't much considered, but after his joining of Tirek, he had been betrayed. Kind of ironic, but nonetheless something that had occurred. Then, when Twilight had been willing to save him, and call him a friend...it was hard to admit, but that had shifted his heart a couple ways. He had given Twilight the last key. And with it, she had opened the chest, defeated Tirek, and was given that massive castle as a gift.
Discord had never felt so moved.
And then life continued as if nothing had happened. Like usual, the Elements of Harmony and their bearers were revered as the saviors of Equestria. And, like usual, Discord was hated and despised. Now more than ever.
Chaos Theory shook his head violently, wiping the new, deep frown from his face. Interrupted now from his afternoon self-brooding, he saw a familiar face sit down across the table from him.
Twilight smiled at him, nodding a silent hello. "It was real nice of you to invite me to lunch, Chaos Theory."
He grinned back at her, waving a hoof. "Oh, it was truly nothing, my dear. I would do it for anypony." He watched as a waiter smiled and placed a large dish in front of her. He walked away with more confidence in his step than Chaos Theory had noticed him having before.
"He seemed rather willing to impress you," he noted.
Twilight took a bite out of the sandwich the waiter had given her. "What?" she asked through her stuffed mouth.
He laughed. "Didn't he walk away with more confidence than before?"
Twilight stared after the waiter. She nodded slowly. "I suppose so." She looked at him with a strange smile on her face. A smirk, almost. "What're you, a behavior specialist?"
He laughed lightly. "Yes, actually. I've had a long time to study pony behaviors, and I find it a rather interesting hobby."
Twilight pondered his words. "Hmm. Interesting. You have me intrigued. So what can you tell me about that pony over there, just from her posture?" She pointed at a light pink pony with purple mane and tail. She had a pair of wings at her sides.
He squinted at her, taking in her features. "Well, I can tell that she's nervous."
The lilac mare's eyes widened, blinking at him. "You can tell that, just by looking at the way she's standing?"
"Yes. She's trying to push through the anxiety. You can tell by the way she's shifting her weight from hoof to hoof."
Twilight wrote down a few notes on a suddenly-summoned notepad. It disappeared in a bright flash of pink light. "Interesting!"
He smirked, flashing his teeth at her. He accidentally slipped on his disguise, and his signature fang slipped from his lips. Twilight peered at his mouth curiously.
"You...have a fang?"
He smiled nervously, and a small drop of sweat dripped down his head. "I-I do! It's a...birth defect. Yeah."
"Huh. I've never seen that before. I think it looks cool!"
Discord had never been complemented before.
