Stick Together

It was a strange day when Steven heard the voice. He was in his room getting ready for school when it said "Stick together." He walked up to his youngest sister and asked her if she had heard it but she didn't.

Later while he was at school, in the middle of world history, he heard it again.

"Find the others." It said. Steven jumped slightly causing everyone at his table to look at him.

"You OK, Steven?" Micheal, Steven's best friend, asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just didn't sleep good last night. All good."

"Whatever you say, Turbo."

Turbo was the nickname Micheal made up for Steven. Micheal always called people by the nickname he made up and they all have a meaning. Turbo was because Steven was the fastest in the class. He was faster at running and solving most math problems.

"Well, do you want to come over tonight and study for that big science test?" Micheal asked.

"Sorry. I have to head to my mom's tomorrow and so I have to get my things ready. I really want to though." Steven answered but the reason he didn't want to go to Micheal's house was because of the voice. He didn't know if it would come back and he wanted to talk to Cara again and see if she had heard it.

"Fine. Well tell me when you're free so we can study and maybe play some video games."

Steven met up with Cara while they were waiting for the bus to head home.

Someone flicked Steven on the head. "Hey, Nerd! Whatcha doing tonight, Steven? I have some stuff I want to discuss with you about your brother." Someone asked. It was Kevin.

"What did he do now?" Steven asked clearly showing his frustration.

"He punched me in the face. Which would be fine if I could do it back but your brother got suspended and won't be back till next week."  Kevin explained.

"So you're complaining that you can't punch my brother in the face. Sorry I have been wanting to do that for years. Doesn't get you any closer but why don't you go talk to Tyler. I'm sure he'll be glad to help you out."

Steven just wanted to get away from Kevin. He never liked him. But he always but up with him because Kevin always wanted to hurt Miles. And even though Steven wasn't in the best relationship with his brother, he didn't want to see him get hurt.

"I can't go to Tyler because he left early from school and our only class together is Biology which is our last class. He left after second period. And Nixie wasn't there either." Kevin wasn't upset about not being able to get payback against Miles but he wanted someone to talk to. Kevin never admitted it but his only true friend was Tyler.

"I'll tell you what," Steven just wanted to get away from Kevin. "I'm going over to my mom's tonight and I'll go and check on Tyler. Deal?"

"Deal." Steven stuck out his hand and Kevin grabbed it and shock it.

He and Cara turned and waited once more for the bus.  When Kevin was almost a little speck in the distance, the bus arrived. I don't know if  you would call it a bus. It was more like a van and Steven and Cara were the only ones who rode it. The driver was a good friend of  the sibling's father. His name was John Grant and was 56 years old. He had almost completely white hair and every now and then, if he forgot to shave, he would have a beard and mustache. His brownish-hazel eyes always brought a friendly and welcoming feeling to those around him. Little did the two know that he was also one of them. One of their species. An Edralaran.

"Hey you two!" John said hiding his nervousness. "I'll be dropping you off at your house instead of the bus stop. Your father is already home and he asked me to drop you off directly there. He didn't tell me why so don't ask."

Steven and Cara exchanged a look but got in the van without resistance. The car ride was quiet because no one spoke. Steven looked out the window and Cara worked on her math homework.

When they arrived at the house with a steep hill of a driveway, lovely walkway, rose buses surrounding the house, and the gorgeous brick and windows that made up the home. The house was a three level home and had six bedrooms and four bathrooms.

"Home, sweet home!" John announced as the car came to a halt at the top of the driveway. "Have a good day, you two." And then he drove away as brother and sister waved goodbye.

They turned toward the door and exchanged another look. Steven sighed as he pulled out his key, unlocked the door, and stepped inside.

"Dad, we're home!" Cara announced.

"I'm in the living room!" They heard a reply in the distance.

The two walked toward their family living room and saw their dad sitting on the couch, elbows on his knees, finger tips pressed against his head, and a single dried up tear on his right cheek.

"Dad, what's wrong? What happened?" Steven asked.

"Sit down." He said plainly and patted the empty space on the couch next to him.

Cara and Steven both sat down on either side of their father. First he pulled them into a snug hug and when he let go he looked at the two of them and one more tear ran down his cheek.

He got off the couch and knelt down in the floor to face two of his four children. Then he said: "When I take you to your mother's tomorrow, Miles and Peggy will be there. So will Tyler and Nixie. I am going to stay there as well as the Mrs. and Mr. Johnson. We have something we have to tell you six that we have been dreading since the you all were born. I'm not going to say anything right now but it will all make sense later."

"Trust each other and you will be free. All six of you." The voice said. Steven and Cara jumped and when their father saw the scared look in their faces, he just groaned and threw himself back onto the couch.

"You heard it, didn't you? You heard the voice. I knew this day would come. Now that it's here... what will I do?" Steven and Cara looked at his questioningly.

"What was that? What was that voice? Are Miles, Steven, Peggy, Nixie, Tyler, and I the six it was talking about? What's going on here, Dad?!" Cara asked. For a seventeen year old boy it was hard enough to under stand. Now here's a twelve year old girl hearing all of this and it is very difficult to comprehend.

"Cara, I know this is hard to understand but you have to calm down. I'll be taking you over tomorrow. I already told your teachers that you won't be at school tomorrow. Your mother will explain everything. I just need you to trust me on this. And please don' t be mean to Miles and Peggy. They' re going through the same thing. You' re not that different you know."

"Dad, where is this coming from? Why are you telling us this?"

"The only way all of you will make it is if you stick together and trust each other. You can't make it any other way."

I'm sorry about the long wait. Stuff has been happening at school then i started getting writer's block. I'll try to come out with the next chapter as soon as possible but don't be suprised if it takes a while.
