Paul and Ringo were sitting together, reading, as they often did on Saturday nights. Just to enjoy each other's company.
Paul was reading a very enticing book about walruses, and Ringo was reading a spell book which was very fitting as it was Halloween."Hey Paul," Ringo started. "There's a spell in here that says on the night of Halloween, at midnight, you can visit with the deceased." He finished with a knowing gleam in his eye.
"Very interesting." Paul replied stroking his chin. "What's the catch?"
"You can only visit one person." Ringo replied as though he had already planned to give this information next.
Paul thought, he really thought about it. He had been missing his old mates, his brothers. He and Ringo had just been discussing it a few weeks ago. It had been a particularly rough October, with it being John's birth month. Paul chuckled to himself at the memory of him giving John a hamburger for his birthday back when they didn't have any fame or fortune. Paul didn't particularly believe in the kind of magic Ringo was reading about, that of witchcraft and spells, but he was willing, no eager to try this one.
"So, what do you say?" Ringo asked after giving Paul time to think.
"Let's do it." Paul replied before standing up, and Ringo did the same. The two men hurried to Paul's kitchen to start making the recipe that went with the spell.
"Okay," Ringo began once they had retrieved all of the cooking utensils they needed. "We need 2 cups of sugar, 3 eggs, and a teaspoon of vanilla," Paul put the ingredients together as Ringo continued to name off items. "A pinch of salt, half a stick of butter, and 3 tablespoons of peanut butter."
"This is far more normal than I was expecting." Paul said as he added the last ingredient.
"Sounds like a biscuit recipe." Ringo said with a bit of a scowl.
"At least it should taste good." Paul chuckled.
"Okay, now that we have this... dough? We have to go to a dark room, eat this stuff, and say the spell." Ringo instructed and Paul nodded. He picked up the big bowl of batter and they headed to a secluded room in Paul's house and shut off all of the lights.
"Alright, now what?" Paul asked after they sat across from each other on the floor of the dark room.
"Take a bite." Ringo stated and they both took a spoonful. "Now, repeat after me." Ringo said his mouth full of batter. "I, Ringo,"
"I, Ringo," Paul repeated jokingly.
"Come on, now." Ringo sighed before chuckling.
"I, Paul," Paul complied.
"Wish on this Hallows Eve,"
"Wish on this Hallows Eve,"
"To see a loved one who has taken their leave,"
"To see a loved one who has taken their leave."
"Now you say the name of the person you want to see." Ringo instructed, reading from the book.
"John." Paul said, every ounce of hope he had poured into the name.
"George." Ringo said, smiling at the memory of his friend. Slowly two shapes began to form in between them. Paul and Ringo gasped as their friends appeared before them.
"I can't believe it worked!" Paul practically shouted.
"Paul? Ringo?" George asked looking at the two before turning next to John who was standing next to him.
"Can they see us, George?" John asked him. Ringo and Paul jumped up and hugged the two men.
"We can see you." Paul said, pulling back from his hug with John. Paul and Ringo then explained the events of the night to George and John.
"That's crazy!" George said after the story.
"Yeah, and we're actually here." John added. "So, what do we do?"
"Why don't we play?" Paul asked and everyone agreed. They went into Paul's private recording studio. They played lots of songs, some of their own and others that they liked, but they ended with In My Life.
"Some are dead and some are living... In my life... I love you more." John sang the last lyrics of the song and Paul felt tears come to his eyes.
After they packed up their instruments and talked a bit longer Ringo realized that the spell would soon end."I've missed you two." Ringo said hugging them both. "My brothers." He wiped away a tear.
"It's been wonderful to see you again." Paul hugged them both as well. "I will miss you."
"We'll always be here." George said, placing a hand on Paul's shoulder.
John and George began to fade away and Ringo gave a slight gasp."Goodbye." Paul said softly, and Ringo waved to them.
"Goodbye." John replied. "Oh, and Happy Halloween!" He said with a grin.
