"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT A SHIFTER! I KNEW THERE  WAS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU! YOU REALLY ARE A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A MATE, I AM NOT HAVING A HUMAN AS MY MATE OR THIS PACKS LUNA!" Weylyn roared, ripping his hand away from my own before storming out his father's office, slamming the door on the way out.

Tears began welling in my eyes as I blinked furiously trying not to cry in front of his father.

"He's always been dramatic," He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, "it'll be fine -my names Jaxon by the way. Go and have a rest, he'll be back soon sweety." his father- Jaxon said kindly, making a small smile force a way onto my lips.

"Mkay." I murmured, standing before leaving through the same door my mate had a few minutes prior. One thing I knew was that I definitely was not going back to my room. The short amount of time I had spent there had already been plagued by memories of my alpha mate.

unconsciously, I found myself out in the gardens, walking towards the tree line of the forest, not stopping as I entered it for even a moment to think that maybe this wasn't such a good idea. I began walking, turning, twisting and weaving through the thick trees, climbing over fallen branches and even scaling a small cliff face at one point until I was finally content that I was far enough away. I could feel the magic of the woods flowing through my body, especially since I had lost my shoes a few miles back, allowing me to feel the soil directly beneath my feet. I never wore shoes at home, so want accustomed to doing so here.

looking up from where I had sat, I noticed the sun beginning to set. I had found a beautiful cliff edge, an outcrop of rock sticking out over a valley, at least a hundred metres drop below. There was a lake at the bottom that was getting a steady flow of water from a stream uphill and I could see some animals coming and going to drink water occasionally.

however, my peace was short-lived as I abruptly began feeling a cramping sensation in my back. I gasped, almost slipping off the edge of the cliff before I managed to scoot back a few steps, landing on my hands and knees as I gasped in pain. I began racking my mind for any reason I would be feeling this until it hit me, my wings!

I had heard stories about angels who had gone too long without flying and how the pain worsened until their wings turned to stone and fell off, leaving them as mere mortals, something I was not going to let happen to myself.

I closed my eyes, searching for the familiar warm feeling in my torso, feeding off the energy of the earth to help and then -all at once- the pain stopped. Brushing my tangled hair out the way, I looked over my left shoulder and sure enough, there were my wings.

They were golden in colour and seemed to almost glow with the sunlight, reaching from about my head to my knees, they were definitely impressive, but I guess that's what you get for being the daughter of the moon goddess.

smiling, I spread them, loving the sensation of the setting sun warming me as the small breeze ruffled my feathers slightly, causing me to sigh in happiness. With all that had been going on I had somehow totally forgotten about my wings. I must just take them for granted back home, always having them, being able to fly and rarely walking anywhere, not having to hide who you really were.

Sigh.

One positive thing though was that I had felt a change in my legs, to be honest, whilst I was here. every day is leg day when you're pretending to be human.

I walked back towards the edge of the cliff, looking at the view before leaning over and allowing my body to fall. I seemed to fall slowly, my hair blowing madly around my head like a blonde halo, and before you ask, no, I do not have one of those.

I watched as the ground came closer and closer before strongly pumping my wings, sending myself high back into the air. I kept going until I was way higher than I originally had been, even going until I broke through the clouds, feeling the crisp air bite at my skin as the wind seemed to be trying to push me out the sky.

I looked around, gazing at the stars I had always loved, and then there, standing elegantly as ever, was the moon; the thing I had loved and hated with such strength that my heart physically hurt, a symbol of my mother, a beacon of a home that I had no way of getting back to, my past, memories, friends and family, all untouchable.

"Mum, can you hear me? I- I'm scared, I don't know what to do please just... just tell me, "I begged, almost losing the composure of my wings, dipping slightly in the air.

'be strong my daughter, danger is coming, you must unite your soul, but listen to me when I say, do not reveal your true nature to anyone until the time comes.'  her voice was nothing more but a whisper on the wind but I knew it was her and it gave me hope once more, knowing she was, in fact, watching over me.

"thank you," I whispered.

I suddenly felt my mind clear, my stress seemed to dissolve as I realised that my mother wouldn't let me have a mate who would reject me, with that I flew lower, until I was under the clouds just above the treetops, by now it was pitch black, the only light was the moon occasionally breaking through the cloud gaps. I skimmed my fingers over the tops of the trees, almost screaming as I heard a wolf howl less than a hundred metres away from me.

Oh my goddess! I totally forgot I walked off without telling anyone.

realising my mistake and that I apparently now had an entire wolf pack searching for me, I dived toward the forest floor, landing almost silently before retracting my wings into my back. I then began stumbling towards the sound of howls and running paws hitting the ground, cursing myself for being so careless as exhaustion began setting into my human-like body. In my haze, I tripped over a tree root, tumbling to the ground, feeling a sharp pain as something cut through my palm. I whimpered as I tried to assess my wound in the darkness, the trees blocking out the light that the clouds didn't and my human eyes too weak to see.

I weighed my options for a few moments before scraping my hair back from my face with my uninjured hand, my eyes darting to each side, trying to spot any movement. I could either attempt to find my own way back or call for help before I froze to death. Finally, I gave in and did what I knew I would have to do.

"WEYLYN!" I screamed as loud as I could, hearing a howl in reply a few seconds later.

Within another thirty seconds, I could hear heavy thumps of paws rushing towards me before a pitch black wolf, no smaller than a small horse, was standing in front of me, rubbing all over me as if to claim me as his own, which now I think of it, he probably was.

"I knew you'd find me, "I whispered weakly, wrapping my arms around his fluffy neck as he crouched down and somehow scooped me onto his wolf back. I latched on quickly, enjoying the warmth radiating from him. It soon soothed my shaking body, and then we were running. It felt like I was flying and I felt more at home than I ever had anywhere else.
