~Aston's POV~
Silence. Silence was the only thing i could hear. In a room of over twenty people. I knew they were giving me weird glances as I paced back and forth in the waiting room. Waiting to hear news about Scarlet's current condition.
Running my fingers through my hair I was stopped by an elderly woman, who had placed her hand on my shoulder and was giving me one of those sympathetic smiles.
"I'm sure she's going to be just fine son, why don't you sit down and try to relax?".
I just simply nodded, having no clue how she knew i was waiting for a girl.
I slowly sat down as the woman took the seat next to me.
"Um, I don't mean to sound rude but how did you kno......".
"I saw you run in with her, is she your younger sister? Oh, pardon me darlin', tell me if I'm being nosy".
"Uh no, it's fine and no she's not my sister but it's a long story".
She shrugged slightly as she leaned back in her chair, "I think we have time".
I sighed and nodded once as I took a breath, and within the next fifteen minutes I had managed to explain everything from the very first time I saw Scarlet to now.
"Oh that poor poor child, I know what it's like to loose your parents, I think it's very lovely that you want to help her, do you know if she has a father?".
"She told me she only lives.....or well lived with her mother, she didn't mention her father at all".
She nodded once as she held her hand out, "Linda".
I glanced down at her hand and smiled slightly as I shook it, "Aston, nice to meet you".
"You too, Aston, you too".
We were both silent for a few minutes. It gave me time to think. Think about Scarlet and what's going to happen to her when she is released. Well that's if she survives, no, she is going to survive, she has to.
"My husband.....".
The sound of Linda's shaky voice snapped me back to reality. I turned to face her and saw tears threatening to fall.
"......My husband got into a pretty bad car accident on the way home from work, he died in the ambulance, they managed to revive him, b-but I don't know if he's going to make it".
I sighed deeply as I glanced to the floor, "I am so sorry Linda".
She nodded once, "Thank you Aston"
"Scarlet-Leigh Adams?".
"That's me!". I stood up and glanced down at Linda, "I hope you're husband makes it, I'll cross my fingers for him".
She smiled and nodded, "And I'll do the same for Scarlet, she's a very lucky child to have someone like you care so much for her when you hardly know her".
I returned the smile then made my way over to the doctor, "I'm Aston Merrygold, I came in with Scarlet, how is she? Please tell me she's gonna be OK".
"If you could follow me then we can talk properly". The doctor turned around and walked out of the waiting room with me following closely.
"There was damage done to the bottom of Scarlet's spine, we have managed to fix it in surgery, it will take up to two months to heal, so she needs to be very careful when moving about, i will prescribe her with antibiotics to help with the pain, which she needs to have twice a day, in the morning and at night, they will have to be injected into the top of her arm, we will give you the needles to use, also, her throat is very badly bruised on the inside from where she was held, she won't be able to eat or drink for a couple of weeks but don't worry we will provide her with liquidized food that she needs to have three times a day, breakfast, dinner and tea, which will have to be injected into her stomach, there was bruising to her head but it's nothing to worry about, there will be no side effects to that, now I have been looking into Scarlet's file, it seems she has no relatives at all so I will need to get in touch with social services and they will put her into an orphanage".
