   Ben Korn

I groaned as I sat up on my bed, the morning light blinding my eyes. It has been exactly a week after the whole dinner scene and Trixie was still mad.

Yesterday morning was very awkward, mom was talking about when we were going to get our supplies and visit the school, but Trixie was still having none of it. She slammed her fork on her plate of pancakes and left the table faster than I've ever seen her move.

I do feel bad, of course, but when mom had told me I was very excited for a new chapter, a new life.

Leaning back down on my bed I reminisced back to that day.

---- ---- ----

I looked up from my book and at my mom as she walked into my room and sat at the bottom of my bed, she looked very serious. "What is it?" I asked, putting my book down. Mother wasn't really the type to be serious.

"Well," She started. "I have signed you and Trixie up for Woods High School." She said firmly. My jaw dropped.

She did what?

"I know it's sudden and out of nowhere," Mother said quickly. "but I felt like you guys shouldn't be using an online program anymore," She spoke, avoiding my eyes and looking at the poster of Elvis on my wall that Trixie had given me for christmas last year.

"I mean, it's better learning in a classroom with your peers, then being in front of a screen for hours." Mom said.

Whats wrong with her? Just last week she was saying how great our schooling program was, and that Trixie and I were better off with it.

"Okay, um-," I paused not really knowing what to say. This was big news to me. "- that's cool." I said sitting up confused about why mom would suddenly do this. "When do we-," I stopped mid sentence, Trixie coming to my thoughts.

"Does Trixie know?" I asked quickly.

Although Trixie can be a bundle of confusion with her emotions, I know she wouldn't be okay with this. If there is one thing I knew for sure about my sister is, she's stubborn. Trixie does not like big changes.

I mean, if mother said we were moving instead Trixie would be okay with that, but were going from a computer screen to actual teachers and classmates.

Mother shrugged her shoulders.

"This is the only way to help you guys." She said quietly.

"What?" I asked confused. Help us how?

Mom had been acting weird lately, this isn't the first time. Once I had seen her talking to herself at the dining table like someone was there.

She turned to me quickly, probably realising what she had said.

"I meant, helping you and Trixie learn better." She said quickly

"Okay..," I said slowly. At this point, I was even more confused. Mother had definitely said this was the only way to help Trixie and I. Nothing was wrong about the school program Trixie and I are using. It had all the typical classes like math, science, social studies, and ELA.

This was so random... so weird.

I shook my head not wanting to think too much. I'm probably just overthinking anyways. Mom probably just wants to benefit our learning like she said.

I looked up to see my room empty, mom had left. I sat there for what seemed like minutes until what mother had said earlier popped up into my mind. "I have signed you and Trixie up for Woods High School."

Were going to school...

I jumped up, grabbed my journal, and made my way to my desk. Although I had many questions and thoughts, this was the best news ever.

******

There was a loud knock on my door, bringing me back to my senses. Before I could even say come in, Trixie pushed the door open and stomped in.

She stood in front of my bed, hands on her hips, wearing black leggings and a blue sweater that said 'I don't know and I don't care'. Her thick dark brown hair was held up into a tight bun.

"Get up Ben," She said rudely, rolling her eyes. "We're going shopping."
