I wasn't proud of what I did, but someone needed to talk some sense into her. She was talking crazy, wanting to take over the world.
Flashback
"Brother?" Yvonna asked
"Yes?" I responded "What is it?"
"When was the last time you used your powers? Last week?"
"Yes, why?" I didn't like where this was going.
"You can't use them in public, I can't use them. We only use them in hiding, to tend to the garden" she turned to me eyes fierce.
"And we will only use them for that, right? Never again in public, RIGHT?" I turned away to pick a flower from the bush next to us.
We sat on our favourite bench in our favourite part of our garden. We lived in a small house with a huge back yard in a small town in Russia. We grew up loving nature and eventually we could control it.
"But what if we did, we did use them in public? We could show everyone what we can do. They would bow down to us; our powers have become more powerful since that incident long ago. We could take this town, this country. This world." She looked passionate, sincere, mad. "Imagine it. Us and all others like us; all the others in the world. We would take the world, make these puny humans bow down to us, or get rid of them entirely! Josiah, think of it!" She had gone insane, totally crazy, her face was evidence of that.
"Sister, you can't possibly think that way! Taking over world, making ourselves superior, just because we are different; because you think that we are better... That's not right."
"You don't understand" she muttered.
"You're right, I don't and I don't think that I ever will. No matter how much you try to tell me that it's right and what we should do" she turned away from me for a second and turned back with a furious expression. I continued, "Remember what our parents told us, what they would have want-" She cut me off. She stood up in an aggressive manner.
"STOP TALKING ABOUT THEM! THEY ARE DEAD, GONE! They don't control us. You want to get along with these inferior, unevolved, pathetic creatures. FINE, go right ahead. Do what you want! But know this," her voice got quieter as storm began brewing in the distance, something that she had caused. "I will take over this world. I'll do whatever it takes to get what is rightfully mine. And if you oppose me, stand in my way, I don't care if you're my blood, I shall show no mercy." With that she took off, Infuriated.
It started to rain, hard. Lightening struck in the distance.
End Flashback
"What is your destination?" the lady at the desk asked me.
"America, Kansas City"
"You are at gate 83." She said with a smile, pointing down the airport hallway.
I walked all the way to Gate 83 and took a seat to wait for my flight.
Yvonna had never acted up like that. She'd had fits before, but none of that magnitude. I knew I had to get away from her, find others like me and warn them of the danger that was coming. For them and for everyone else. No one was safe.
I decided to go to America since almost everywhere in Europe and Asia there had been natural disasters all coinciding with visits by my sister. Visits to powered people she was trying to lure into her "army".
Why Kansas City? I don't know why. It just felt right, and since I decided to go there I've been reading that there have been many mysterious happenings in Kansas and the surrounding states.
Never have I ever been on an airplane. This thought stopped all others and I felt feelings of anxiety grow in me.
I turned and noticed a potted plant next to me. It was wilting, the poor thing. The soil it was planted in, didn't support it properly.
I looked around to make sure no one watching. The I touched the soil modifying its composition and almost instantaneously the plant began to perk up, looking more vibrant. I took a bottle out of my back pack and poured some water into the soil. Though it was looking better, I still felt bad that I couldn't help it some more because people would notice.
Checking around me to make sure no one saw what I had done, I saw only one person. A man, in jeans and a hoodie, reading an American newspaper.
He seemed to be fully submersed in the article he was reading, so I turned back to the plant. I touched one of the leaves and it began to glow and the light spread throughout it and it was transformed into the lush green jungle plant it was meant to be.
The man that had been sitting peacefully across from me got up now with his newspaper and walked toward me. I tensed, thinking that he saw me. People can be very prejudiced against things or people that are different from them. Especially if they are more powerful. Luckily, he walked right past me, but left the newspaper on table next to the plant.
I was about to call him back to tell him the he left his newspaper, but he was gone, nowhere to be found. The only people in this part of the airport were sleep deprived college students like myself. Other that that, it was barren.
I picked up the newspaper and tried to read it, sounding out the words.
"Vh-Vhat's happ – happen – happening e – in Le – ba -non? Myst – myster – mysterious peo – people, are popping up." I read aloud. English was so hard to read. After 15 minutes of reading the article, and with great difficulty, I managed to figure out that people like me, people with powers were showing up in a city called Lebanon in Kansas. Somehow, they were just appearing there.
Over the loudspeaker I could hear, "Reys 1013, Kanzas-Siti, Soyedinennyye Shtaty Ameriki v nastoyashcheye vremya posadki. Flight 1013, Kansas City, United States of America is now boarding."
I picked up the newspaper, moved tothe checkpoint and proceeded to the gate to board the plane.
