Chapter 9
Kyle
I lost her in the sea of high school students. I wouldn't be able to find her.
A hand rested on my shoulder. Brian was watching sympathetically. "Sorry, Kyle. You can get her next time."
"I don't want next time," I gritted out. "I waited the entire night so I could see her in the morning." Additionally, I got more than I had originally planned for, which was great.
Until she refused to talk to me. At first, I thought I blew it when I didn't greet her outside like I had wanted to. She had me too transfixed to really speak. In my eyes, she was perfect last night but it had me no where prepared for today. It was indescribable. She was still the sweet, innocent girl I met, only with additional characteristics that had me loving her more. She seemed more confident, sure of herself.
A combination of fiery and shy. It had me absolutely intrigued.
It was like every time I saw her, I was thrown back to the day we first met.
Her hair was down. It ran halfway down her back, in thick and shiny locks. I never noticed her shades of red until one hour ago. They emphasized her hair, adding a lighter hue.
Kristen along with the rest of my exes had light, wavy hair. I always thought I preferred blonde girls, but Sophia clearly had me changing my mind. Hers was completely straight, in a natural way that had it bouncing every time she took a step. It was mesmerizing.
I choked a laugh down. Never would I have thought I could pay so much attention to someone's hair. She had me discovering many new... Qualities I've never possessed before.
Her eyes were bright, lively. She seemed to be in a good mood. For some reason, just seeing her happy had mme smiling hopelessly at her. And her laugh. Her laugh was so delicate. So special. Unique. I wouldn't describe Sophia as fragile, but she had me reconsidering it.
But... According to Luke's actions and Evelyn's words, she's changed. Stronger, not as shy. Though the sweet, innocent girl I saw yesterday was still there. Only hidden.
Tough on the outside, gentle on the inside. A perfect combination.
She's absolutely remarkable.
"To you, she is," Adrian said. He answered my thought before I could say it. "You spoke out loud. Don't worry Kyle, we might be teasing you, but we know how serious you are with Sophia. You're in love, we get it. It'll happen to all of us. You had it early. Even though you're only seventeen..." He trailed off. Brian cut in.
"It happened really fast, so it's hard to adjust to. Just make sure you take some time off to remember us, eh?"
I ignored Brian. I was still angry at him for the little stunt he did. He was trying to lighten up the situation, though it didn't help me. It was like adding salt to a wound. He was wishing for his death sentence and I didn't want to face the consequences of killing my best friend.
I really didn't want to be jealous of Brian again.
"See you guys later," I muttered, not waiting for a reply. If I couldn't have Sophia in person, then I want to be lost in my thoughts about her.
Throughout the next two periods, I didn't even bother listening to the lessons. My teachers didn't call me out anyways. My concentration was being focused on a series of scenes that happened earlier.
She was in my math class! It was quite an eye-opener for me. Luke wasn't lying when he said that she was smart. I just didn't realize it would be enough to skip a grade.
