Oh! Look what you made me do

"Hmmm, I must say I am disappointed with this reception. Aren't you happy to see me?"

I walked around the table, addressing each of the them by name. My skin buzzed with excitement, I was almost intoxicated by the fear in the air. There was no greater satisfaction than having my enemies sitting before me, completely at my disposal, waiting for me to dispense the justice that was owed to me.

I took my time. I kept them alive for hours as I flitted from one to another, torturing them as I saw fit. I finally let them die at dawn, when I had to return to the castle. Their bodies were indistinguishable, bloody masses but I kept their faces intact. I wanted the False King to recognize them.

The news that the noblemen had gone missing spread the very next day, but the bodies weren't actually found for another ten days or so. During that time, the treacherous maid walked about as if she had seen a ghost. She was utterly pale and she jumped at every little sound. The Chief-of-Army and the Grand Judge also arrived to the castle. They were more composed than the treacherous maid, but still shaken. They demanded an audience with the King but didn't receive it.

For ever since the last five nobles had been reported missing, the coward had barricaded himself inside my parents' chambers, with half a dozen hand-picked guards standing at the door. All his food and drink was tested for poison before it was sent into the room and no one was allowed inside.

It was amusing how hard he was trying. As if anything could save him from me.

He finally came out after the bodies were discovered. There was no way that he could've missed the funerals of some of his most ardent and public supporters.

I attended also, standing in the back with the other maids. Even from where I was, I could see how ill he looked. There were shadows under his eyes, his skin was pale and wan, and his cheeks were sunken in due to all the weight he'd lost. Good. Very good.

With the funerals over, I turned my attention to my next victim.
