NOT EDITED!! SORRY!!!! AND I KNOW IT'S NOT LONG! AGAIN SORRY!!!
"Settle down with me
Cover me up
Cuddle me in
Lie down with me
Hold me in your arms
Your heart's against my chest
Lips pressed to my neck
I've fallen for your eyes
But they don't know me yet
And the feeling I forget
I'm in love now"
- Ed Sheeran "Kiss Me"
I groggily lifted my face from its place in my arms to find Barb standing over me. Somehow, I'd ended up on the floor during my drunken stupor. I vaguely remember coming to the office, but from there on I don't remember anything. A pounding was beginning at the base of my skull. I knew full well that it would turn into a raging headache.
"What the hell are you doing here this early? And why the hell do you smell like a bar?" Barb demanded while she helped me up from the floor and onto the couch. The world was spinning, and my stomach didn't feel so good. Maybe me and tequilla didn't mix as well as I had thought we would.
No sooner had Barb placed the trash can in front of me when my stomach decided it was time to empty itself. A sore throat, bad breath, and ten minutes later, I was comfortably laying on the couch while Barb took the trash out and hunted down some aspirins, water, and a greasy breakfast. Somehow, I was able to remember that today was Saturday and no one would be in until at least noon because we didn't put out a Saturday paper.
"Alright," Barb announced, coming back into the office, "I have a greasiest thing I could find, eggs smothered in butter and, like, five strips of bacon. Here, take these," she said handing me a Dr. Pepper and two aspirins. I nodded gratefully.
Barb stayed with me while I ate. I just knew she was wanting to know why I was here and why I was trashed, but I also knew she would wait till I was ready to tell her.
And that's exactly what I did. I told her everything, even though she was the office gossip queen.
"And that is why you found me here," I summed up. She was just staring at me with a look that I couldn't exactly read.
I meandered over to my desk and sat down at the mess I'd somehow been able to create in my drunken stupor. My computer was still on with a few Word documents still running. Hundreds of papers were scattered across my desk with some sort of drunken scribble. Me and tequila are so having a break up in the near future.
"So," Barb said clearing her throat, "You still live with him.......won't it be awkward consdering, well, everything?"
"You make it sound like I haven't already thought about that tiny little issue, Barb. Me and tequilla talked it over last night, and we are moving into an apartment together the moment I find one."
"I should have known you and tequila would be getting back together. You always do," Barb said while biting her lip to stifle her laugh. She couldn't keep her laugh to herself and somehow we bot ended on the floor holding our stomachs.
"It doesn't really matter," I said surprising myself, "It was a one night thing, but when you've liked someone for that long everything seems more dramatic. I overreacted to the whole situation, but I also realise Landon didn't have to so cold about telling me we could only be friends."
"All you can do is pretend like this hasn't affected you as much as it has and go on with life," Barb said before heading to the door, "I'll be at my desk. Ring me if you need me."
I watched her open the door and step out before stopping dead in her tracks. Confused, I got up to see what was going on but stopped when I saw Barb motion for me to stay in the office.
"Hey Barb." I almost melted at the sound of his voice. What the hell was he doing here? He should just leave me alone, right? Or maybe he wants to say this is just a misunderstanding. Either way I didn't want to see him yet. As stealthily as I could, I crawled under my desk and pulled a shair in front of me to hide my location.
"Sorry, Landon, she isn't in there. I came in this morning and her office was trashed so I just finished cleaning it up."
Lord, bless Barb for covering for me.
"Are you sure she isn't in there? I'm not some guy who just met her. When she's upset she and tequilla have a party, and this place reeks of alcohol."
"Uhh, I honestly don't know where she is. She came to my apartment last night trashed, and I let her crash on my couch. She was already awake and heading out the door to 'look for apartments'.
"If you see her, tell her I'm looking for her," Landon ordered. I heard the door slam shut and then silece settle over my office.
Why was he wanting to talk to me? Didn't he make things perfectly clear last night?
"Get out of here before he comes back, Beth," Barb said before leaving as well. I took Barb's advice as quickly as I was able to get my office back in order.
'Off to apartment hunt,' was my last thought before I left walked out of the Times main doors.
