Prologue
Pain flared through my body as I tried to sit up. An unfamiliar stone bed dug into my back, and fear swept through my veins as I groggily realized I was restrained to the slab. My head pounded in recognition to the drugs coursing with each throb. My blood knew how to fight it off; that fact almost made the hardships I'd endured to acquire a clear mind less painful. But I knew it couldn't erase the damage. I settled and gave in to the biting shackles that restrained me, but less physically, I gave myself over to my mind. I knew no matter how much I tried to ignore it or deny it, I wasn't normal and I never would be. My ever escaping legs would always know how to run; My eyes would always shift and suspect more than things seem; My breaths would always be deliberate and slow, ready to stop inhaling at the smallest sign of air contamination. Yes, the things in my past may protect my changing life now, but the damage will never be erased. Ever. Now, I'd be using my talents once again. I sighed, I'd be doing things I didn't like doing to save myself, to save beauty most take for granted, and to keep the population of brainless fools thinking their own, self-induced thoughts: To rescue the unsuspecting minds of the world. This is my quest, and my very being has been made to accept it.
Author's Note: I have decided to post the edited version of Raven Flight on here, so I deleted most of the story and am rewriting it. It isn't all edited, so only about half the story is finished, but I am getting there. Because it is editing and not writing it for the first time, it is a bit slow going. I have to rethink a lot of the story and try to fit it all together, so you might have to be a bit patient with me with the updates. The beginning is pretty much the same, other than some revising of sentences and small corrections, but the really big changes of the story are a bit later, so even if it seems the same as last time, keep reading. Overall, I hope that you really like it and enjoy reading it as much as I have loved writing it. If you have any questions or want to give me some constructive criticism, please share, I will do whatever will make this a better story and more enjoyable read. Thanks again for reading!
