In the anime, Zack is in his twenties and Rachel is 13. Because of the fact that I am shipping them together, in this fanfic Rachel is 15 and Zach is 18. Your welcome. Enjoy!
|¥|¥|¥|¥|¥Zack stumbled out of the building, Ray in his arms, bleeding.
That godamned bastard! He said Ray would be saved... Zack desperately wanted Ray to just be safe, to be alive. Just as he thought this, around a dozen police cars and ambulances crowded up to the building entrance.
Zack expected to be arrested then and there; he was a pretty popular murderer, after all.
But no police officers asked him to raise his hands up above his head, nor do anything remotely connected to being arrested.
What the fuck... Zack wondered as ambulances rushed to pick up Ray and then people ran to him. Zack brushed them away, not wanting anyone too close.
"Sir, would you like to accompany her in the ambulance?" A man asked Zack. He was so confused...why were these people acting so nice to a murderer?
"S-sure." He stammered in shock and entered the ambulance, where someone injected Ray with some stuff.
"Sir, do you know what her quirk is? Any allergies? Intolerances?" The man asked Zack.
"No...what do you mean 'quirk'?" Zack asked but the man ignored him. He huffed before looking down at Ray again, the small girl that had caused so much to happen in his life. "Goddamned bastard." He cursed through clenched teeth, remembering what Danny had done.
He was angry at that good-for-nothing ass for so many reasons...at least now he was dead. Or he hoped, the bastard seemed immortal.
The ambulance came to a stop and Zack cursed as he hit his head.
"Sir, we ask that you please follow us. We must check you for injuries." The man said, making it sound like a command.
"Are you fucking deaf? I told you not to touch me!" Zack spat in the man's face, following him as he wheeled Rachel into the building. The man seemed very confused by his behavior.
To be honest, something felt off to Zack. Something was different, but he didn't know what. It was like...the chilly feeling that had followed him all these years was finally gone.
As he walked behind the man and Rachel's unconscious body, he felt a stab of pain to his back. Nausea hit him like a hurricane and he felt like vomiting. His vision became blurry and he put a hand on the wall to keep himself from falling. A huddle of nurses rushed to Rachel and brought her behind some doors.
The man that had been wheeling her to this place turned around, a concerned expression on his face as he watch Zack try to compose himself.
The pain in his back was absolutely horrible, worst than when he stabbed himself, the only thing worst being when that bastard burned him all those years ago.
"Sir, I have to ask you to follow me." The man ordered firmly this time. He was a doctor and wasn't going to let this bandaged boy die because he didn't want to be checked.
"I...don't...want to." Zack managed to stammer between shaky breaths.
"Sir, you are obviously unwell and as a doctor I cannot leave you in this state." The man urged.
"Are you a real doctor, though? How do I know you're not a goddamned psycho who'll use me for some damn experiment?" Zack demanded, facing the man.
"Sir, I'm not sure what you mean, but I can assure you I am a real doctor. My priority in life is making people better to make sure they live and live a good life." The man told Zack.
"I hope those aren't lies. I hate lies." Zack seethed. "Do whatever you need to do." He relented. If he had the strength to argue, he would. But he felt so weak and, for some reason, he believed the man wasn't lying.
"Can you walk?" The man asked him.
"I'll try." Zack replied and the man lead him to a room with a nurse in it. Zack was still vigilant...who knew? This doctor could be exactly like Danny. Zack had the knife he gave Rachel ready in case.
Zack sat down as the doctor approached him.
"I never introduced myself. I'm Dr. Calio." He said. "What is your name?"
"Isaac Foster." Zack winced, knowing this doctor would now call the police.
Instead the doctor walked over to the computer in the corner and typed something in.
Zack frowned at the computer. What is that? He wondered. The doctor frowned and turned to him.
"I can't seem to find your record anywhere. Have you ever been to a hospital?"
"Why the hell would I have come to one? You know what, I feel better. Just show me where Ray is so I can get the hell out of here." Zack spat.
"Are you sure you're better, sir?" The doctor asked.
"Yeah, yeah. Now can I see Ray?" Zack was twitching nervously. Despite how much he might deny it, he was really worried about Ray.
And not because of his promise.
It was true that his nausea was better, but his back was still hurting horribly.
"The fuck..." he muttered. Zack had never had any health issues, being the monster he is. He looked up through a glass to see Ray being operated on, bullets being taken out of her limp body, an oxygen pump covering her face.
This can't be the last image of her I have... Zack thought when he reminded himself that she could die, then and there.
The thought angered him. It angered him that she may not live to see the world again, it angered him that he wouldn't be the one to kill her.
But he didn't want to kill her. At first, he had wanted to, but after everything...he couldn't. He wouldn't kill her. Despite the fact what she did was the same as him, a sin, to him she was his angel, his savior.
And he knew that, somehow, he was hers.
He couldn't lose her...if he lost her he would lose himself, he would lose any reason to be alive. As he kept watching, the pain in his back grew more and more intense until he couldn't take it anymore...
He screamed.
