Chapter 1

Lyric's POV

High school. One of the worst parts of life. You are forced to sit in a stuffy classroom with people who need to learn how to bathe themselves. I can't stand anyone in my classes. It doesn't help that my dad is running for mayor so now I have a target on my back. Why you might ask? I have no idea. I think it's just because everyone is always watching me to make sure I'm. It doing anything wrong that could make my father lose the election.

Walking down the bland hallway, I'm trying to find my best friends who can actually keep me sane from killing someone. There's Amelia who is my all time best friend and I couldn't live without. We met back in kindergarten. After we got to know more about each other (after I had to break her shell she was so enclosed in) we found out we have the same birthday only she's a year older than me. That was what really fueled our friendship as funny as that is. We learned we had so much more in common then just our birthdays. We grew up together and this year she's a senior while my two other best friends are juniors with me.

My next best friend is Parker. He's a dumbass. Simple as that. I can't tell you the amount of girls he sleeps with a week, but that's all part of his "charm". That's only what he says to make himself feel better about himself. He's our comic relief in our friend group but also the most annoying. Amelia and Parker can not stand each other. If you were to put them in a room alone together one of them would not come out alive and I believe that would be Parker. When Amelia gets mad, she's scary. Everyone thought they would end up together but if anyone who said that could see them now, they wouldn't think that anymore.

I'm actually looking at them now while they are standing around Amelia's locker. Parker won't stop talking and teasing Amelia is what it looks like. She looks absolutely pissed and uncomfortable. She starts screaming and hitting him in the shoulder, then slams her locker door shut and she makes eye contact with me. She storms over to me while Parker starts laughing his ass off.

"I swear, if he even looks at me one more time I'm gonna punch him in the throat." She says still fuming with anger.

"What did he do now?" I ask while rolling my eyes, knowing she will not go through with that threat.

"He won't stop going into detail about this girl he fucked last night and he knows it makes me uncomfortable." She explains.

"Yeah he's an ass. Just ignore him." I shrugged " That's what I do." If Amelia and I had it our way Parker wouldn't even be in this friend group. If it wasn't for him being Owen's best friend, we would have kicked him to the curb.

Which brings me to my next best friend, Owen. He has been like my rock. He knows about how my parents treat me, now that they are rising to fame in this town. He has always been there from the beginning and was my shoulder to cry on. Which is why I have a small crush on him. No one knows but Amelia. She teases me about it to no end. I've always wanted Steven and I to become a thing but I don't think that would ever happen. He could literally get any girl he wants with his looks. Why would he choose me?

"Close your mouth. You'll catch flies." Amelia laughs. I didn't even realize I was staring. "Ew, I think you even drooled."

"Shut the fuck up." I say as I start walking towards the guys again. Amelia starts pulling on my sleeve so she doesn't have to go back over there.

"Lyric please don't make me go back over there." She tells me as I start literally dragging her over. Because she was pulling on my sleeve my shirt got pulled down a little over my shoulder.

"Wow. She's even a whore for her best friend." I hear as I'm pulling Amelia. I looked up to see Courtney talking with her stupid looking best friend. I don't know why but she's always hated me. I really just thinks it's because her dad also tried to campaign for mayor and then got caught up in a big scandal. He was cheating on his wife with a girl half his age.
