Today's a Saturday so I naturally wake up to the birds chirping and streams of sunlight peeking through my curtains into the room. I was starting to feel more at home here with Idra, though I've still been thinking about my mother's diary and where it actually is. My aunts been so nice to let me stay, I mean it did all happen very fast so I decide to make her breakfast before she wakes up. I slip on my slippers and dressing gown and run quietly downstairs. I wouldn't say I'm much of a cook so this was going to be a challenge for me. Looking through the kitchen cupboards I find a pan and decide to make us pancakes. They ended up a little burned but I'm sure Idra wouldn't mind. As I layer the table and poured her a cup of tea I hear slow foot steps coming down the stairs. "Good morning Aunt Idra." She sees the pancakes and a huge smile forms on her face, "Lexa, thank you! You didn't have to."
As we sat lazily eating our pancakes my phone buzzes in my dressing gown pocket:
Finn: Hi Lexa, we're all going to the park in a bit if you want to come?
I knew I'd start having to join in with them to become better friends so I thought why not, it might be fun after all. Once Idra and I had cleaned up I headed up stairs to find something to wear; black ripped jeans, an orangy jumper and beige beanie with timberlands. I wasn't big on fashion but in fall I always made more of an effort since it was my favourite season. My phone lit up on the side of my draws with a message from Finn:Meet us at Regent's Park at 11 ish see you then
I quickly reply with:
Can't wait :)
Begging Idra to give me a lift I arrive outside of the park and jump out. I walk back into the park, the trees golden in colour and the ground covered in leaves. I see Finn, Harper and... Clarke sitting under the trees near the lake. This might be a little awkward with Clarke after yesterday, I still don't know what was up or if she just doesn't like me but I wasn't going to push to find out.
"Hey Lexa!" Harper says enthusiastically, she leans in for a hug to which I go along with even though I'm really not one for physical contact. Finn gives me a smile and says "the others will be here soon, some others you haven't met are coming too by the way." Brilliant, more people. More names I have to remember. Some of the people I met at school arrived and honestly I didn't remember their names but they said hey and started chatting away to one another. We all sat under the trees talking about a Halloween party that was going on the next day, I didn't have a clue what they were going on about but I just nodded and smiled. I decided I'd try and make more effort with people, I didn't want to be known as the shy girl. Looking around for someone to talk to. Clarke is sat against a tree, her head hung low. She always seems upset, yeah she's acted like a bit of a bitch towards me but it does seem like somethings wrong. More and more people I didn't know started to show up, bringing beer and loud music blasting through speakers. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about that but I continued to chat and smile as If I wasn't uncomfortable at all.
Suddenly a tall, muscly boy stood up and shouted "okay, now we're all here it's time for drink or dare." Yay my favourite game I thought sarcastically. He walked over to Harper who looked happy to join in and gives her a cup. She pulls out a piece of paper with her eyes closed that reads;
Drink.
The boy reads it out and everyone sighs in disappointment and he grabs a bottle of vodka and hands it to her. Harper willingly took a swig, making her pull a face in disgust. "Okay, who's next?" He says. Another guy stands up and pulls out a piece of paper reading:
Dare; everyone playing has to jump in the lakeEveryone starts laughing and talking until the boy shouts "okay everyone up, lets go!" and starts running for the lake. People start to undress, some running and jumping straight into the water. Soon enough it was only me and Clarke left and there was no way I was getting into that freezing water with or without my clothes on. I guess I'd have to make conversation so I get up and sit down next to Clarke still looking unhappy. "Hey," I blankly say. "I know we didn't get off to the best of starts but can we just put that us behind us?" I say smiling. She finally looks up and forces a small smile. "Look, I'm sorry I haven't been the most welcoming of people. I've just got a lot of shit going on right now," Clarke softly says. I look into her deep blue eyes, they were so blue. Like an ocean. We sat there in silence for a bit, watching them all get out of the lake only to jump back in again.
"I don't get it," I state. She looks up, "they're idiots hats why," she smiles a little more. "Hey are you going to that Halloween party tomorrow?" I ask. Clarke shakes her head "It's not my sort of thing". I hadn't known her for long but I already knew she didn't get out much. I could just tell.
"Come on I'll go with you," I was the pushy type and It did seem like she could do with cheering up. Clarke laughed and shook her head in refusal. "Okay. I'm giving you no choice, I'll be at yours tomorrow before the party". Clarke started playfully hitting me laughing, "fine then". We sat and talked while the others played around in the lake. She didn't seem that bad, she actually seemed nice now. Well, I guess I'd find out tomorrow night when I got to hers. Everyone ended up staying around the lake for a long time so Clarke and I decided to go home since it was getting darker.Changing into my pjs I jump into and scroll through Instagram to see pictures of everyone jumping in the lake. It was a pretty good day even if Clarke and I didn't join in. Soon enough I drifted off to sleep.
