After 4 days of staying in the house and gaining a couple of pounds, the sun is finally back and no threat of storm is forming. Though it’s a bit gloomy but you could still feel the heat from the sun. “Ah! I miss this!” I told myself while rushing to my old black top-down Volkswagen. Mom and dad probably in the office already. Matt went to school for his basketball practice. His dream is to beat Kobe Bryant, or he could just be like him. It’s more realistic than beating the giant. Oh. Oops.

After getting inside, buckled my seat belt, I hurriedly started the engine and flew to the office. My dad must be waiting for me there. We have a staff meeting by 10:00 AM, and it’s 9:30 AM already.

Nervously walking at the lobby and checking the time “Perfect! 9:57 AM, I still have 3 minutes, Marissa. Dad in there?” I asked her. Marissa is our secretary. She’s 24 years old, black long-wavy hair like Selena Gomez and skinny. “Nope. Mr. Jackson is still in his office.” I sighed out of relief and headed to my small office to put all my things, prepare my presentation and check e-mails.

Knock.. Knock.. Knock..

“Mr. Jackson, the meeting is about to start. Your dad wants you there first.” The maintenance told me. I just nodded. After preparing all the stuffs, I went to the meeting room, opened my laptop and connected it to the projector.

An hour later, the meeting was done. It went perfectly fine and smooth. Dad has been coolheaded lately. Maybe because of the profit he is getting the past months. We’ve increased our profit for almost 40% last month. My dad is workaholic, materialistic and both his eyes flash dollar sign. Yep. That’s my dad. My big boss.

When I came back to my office, I didn’t notice dad was following me, when I sat down I was scared to death when I saw dad sitting at a living chair in front of my desk. “God! You scared me dad!” Almost out of breath.

“Son, you’re doing good lately. My hardship and also your mom’s have finally paid off. A few more years then this company will be yours. I know you can handle this so much more better that I handled this company. I love this business and this is our bread and butter. I am proud of you son. When Matt finished College, I hope he could help you in this business. He’s a smart kid just like you.” Finishing his last sentence looking down, looks like a bit disappointed.

“Thanks dad. I don’t think Matt is interested with our business. He’s been inclined to sports and really dead serious in getting a scholarship and be a varsity player. Let’s see, dad. He’s just 12 years old. He still has a lot of time to think about it. Thanks for believing in me dad. You know you’re my idol.” Then I threw up a fist and he punched on it. “You’re my man.” He smiled. “Okay, Mr. Jackson, I gotta go back to the office. I have a lot of check vouchers to sign.” Then my dad was gone from my office. I am relieved and I can’t believe what I just heard from dad. He’s so proud of me. Sigh.

The time has passed and it’s 3 PM already, I have a client call to attend and I need not to be late. So I went out to get me some lunch because my stomach is getting angrier already. Went to my car and drive to the busy streets of the city. Traffic. At least I have time to eat my burger. Bumper to bumper. I can still drink my Coke! Beep. Beep. Honking everywhere. I don’t want to complain. I don’t want to look negative when I get to my client.

After 45 minutes in the traffic and being late for 15 minutes, I finally saw my client and said I was sorry for being late. Meeting with the boss, I said. “Oh, John. Hi! Finally we meet.” He said, obviously buying my excuse. Shaking my hands and offering me a seat in front of him. He wears white rolled-up long sleeves, neatly tucked in his denim pants, brown belt and black leather shoes.
