It was early morning, and the bright sun shone down on the orphanage. Arcadia and Marcus were up helping the kids with Jade, and I sat outside with Samma'El. The younger ones frolicked as the barren desert slowly turned into a beautiful garden.
"You know, I remember when I walked through the Garden of Eden in ancient times. I was it's caretaker." Samma'El began to reminisce.
"You were around the time of Adam and Eve?" I asked.
"I was before Adam and Eve. I helped create the Garden. Jade... she reminds me of someone I used to know." Samma'El smiled.
I sat there, prospered at religious spits of knowledge mainly thrown at me by others. I really never believed in religion, especially Christianity, but now I was curious.
"So, Cain, Abel, everyone is real?" I asked.
Samma'El chuckled lightheartedly and slapped his palm on my shoulder.
"I had the pleasure of knowing Cain personally, and witness him bludgeon Abel. Contrary to popular belief, he wasn't murdered by a rock, but by the ivory of a horn. I had killed the animals in Abel's name, so that he would waste no time in the culling himself. Unfortunately, Cain took this to blight and took advantage of it, as well as Abel's life. In a way, I am as responsible as the first Immortal." Samma'El mumbled.
"Alright Mr. Dark and Gloomy." I said.
"Oh, don't worry, I had absolved myself of any guilt millennia ago." Samma'El smiled.
Arcadia slowly walked over, waving at some of the younger kids as they giggled and played. She sat down next to me, leaning her head on my shoulder.
"Jade, hide the children." Samma'El said, standing up quickly in an alert manner.
"What, why?"
"Just do it."
The Godspawn was walking at a calm pace towards the flat. This time, he had a scythe resting on his shoulder, left hand in pocket and whistling a tune, as a digger of a cemetery that hung his shovel would. Samma'El clicked his finger, presumably to stop time. Godspawn's calm walking pace slowly halted to a stop. He seemed frozen, but scoffed and continued to walk.
"Sammy! Long time no see!" Godspawn said.
"Stay behind me." Samma'El whispered to me.
"Big boy, huh? You know I'm not after the children." Godspawn said.
"Can't trust anyone these days, you know that."
"Good thing you've been keeping busy then." Godspawn smiled cheek to cheek.
Godspawn's pace kept in rhythm, calmer than anyone else outside. I suspected that he was here to kill Arcadia, Jade and Marcus, but an Astral seemed above the guise of Galgamere.
"Why are you here?" Samma'El yelled out to Godspawn.
"I'll let you guess, for old time's sake." Godspawn shrugged.
"Sumatra already knows of the Elementals' gathering." Samma'El prompted.
"Well, yeah. You're not wrong. But I'm not here for them, they're on schedule to do their thing anyways."
All of the kids had ran to cover behind Jade and Arcadia, who were ready to draw their weapons. Marcus' arms began to glow like molten rock, as he was preparing to face Godspawn.
"These inferior incarnations of these 'legendary' warriors are below my paygrade. I'm interested in Karta." Godspawn's expression slowly faded to a grim one, and his pace raised ever so slightly.
