You awoke with an ache in your body, stretching to meet sunrise as a shade of pink loomed near. Sitting up groggily, you rubbed your eyes and greeted the smile that was sent to you.
"Good morning to you too, Sakura." You yawned and the girl laughed, amused at the bed hair.
"Looks like Kakashi-sensei and Naruto are up too. We're going to head out today. Pakkun's found the Akatsuki trail."
Already, huh.
"I'll get ready."
The team soon met up at Suna's entrance in the next hour, anxiously waiting for Temari's own team to join them. Minutes began to tick and the said young woman eventually ran in with a huge frown on her face. Behind her was Baki, his expression mimicking hers.
"What took you guys so long?" Naruto frowned, unamused at the tardiness.
Temari came to halt, eyes meeting the team's apologetically. "Naruto... My team isn't allowed to look for Gaara."
"What?!"
"The orders came from the elders on the council." Baki interrupted with an explanation. "We need all high level Suna Jounins on border patrol in case there are further attacks from the Akatsuki."
Kakashi sighed, taking in all the information given. "I see. That makes sense. Does this mean no one from Suna will be joining us?"
"Sorry... We'll try our best to change those old geezers minds."
"Hey, don't be." You turned to Temari. "We promise we'll save Gaara for you."
"Don't forget me!"
A voice echoed from above and the group looked up, surprised to see a familiar elder standing on top triumphantly. Granny Chiyo landed on the ground with ease, although everyone seemed taken aback at her agility.
"Chiyo-sama." Sakura uttered with disbelief. "Are you really going to join us?"
"Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't have a few tricks up my sleeves." The old woman huffed. "Besides, I can't let you Konoha youngsters take all the credit in rescuing our Kazekage. And there's the matter of my grandson I have to look into..."
"So that settles it then." Kakashi nodded his head thoughtfully. "We'll go on ahead and will see you guys later if it's allowed."
The team agreed to go on as a five men cell consisting of four Konoha shinobis and one Suna elder. As the four made their way swiftly, you felt strong arms holding you back and found a solemn looking Temari, eyes piercing straight through yours.
"(Y/N)... please..." She stumbled on her words but you shook your head knowingly.
You gave the young woman a pat on her head and although you had your hesitations about the whole thing, you knew you couldn't afford to let her see them. After all, Kankurou and her would have had to be the most restless of all.
"We'll bring him home safe."
You quickly got out of her grip, making your way to rejoin the team. You noted Naruto was right ahead, with Kakashi and the rest trailing after and your heart ached imagining how anxious the young man had been. Lost in your own thoughts, you didn't even noticed Kakashi slowing his pace as he travelled beside you.
"(Y/N)," The man spoke up and your head immediately tilted in his direction. "I hope your doubts from last night have cleared up."
In front, Sakura looked at you worriedly but you gave her a reassuring look to tell her that it was okay.
