"What do you mean we're moving?" I asked as my mother pushed a few picture frames into a box.

"Closer to your brother, I hate having the family seperated and I need to be with my son right now" she replied, not looking at me.

"I'm not going" I said making my mother spin around.

"Yes you are, you have nowhere to stay! No money and no job, you are coming!" She exclaimed.

"No! I'm happy here mum! Finally and I'm not going to ruin that or let anyone else ruin that" I exclaimed back.

"And where will you stay?" She asked, putting her hands on her hips.

I opened my mouth before closing it with a snap. "That's what I thought" she said in that mother tone.

"Your brother needs me just as much as you do and I won't be that mother that abandons him" she said, as she picked up more frames.

"You aren't abandoning him, you're letting him grow up, dad always sai-" I was saying before she cut me off.

"Your father isn't here!" She exploded.

I flinched and took a step back. "I'm not going, so have fun on your trip and tell Chris that I said hi" I snapped before storming out of the room and then out of the house.

I crossed my front yard and again crossed the road as I made my way to Matthew's house. Looking up, I spotted an flashy unfamiliar car in his driveway. Frowning and thinking that one of the boys had got a new car, I walked up to the front door and knocked.

The door opened and a boy my age answered the door. I took a surprised step back. "You must be Shelby, I'll say Matthew's words do you injustice" he said slyly.

"Where's Matt?" I asked, still frowning.

The boy smirked. "Cuz is currently in a meeting with my uncle, maybe I could entertain you" he said, a cocky smile sliding onto his face.

"So you're Matthew's cousin?" I asked, trying to remember if Matthew had told me.

"The one and only, so are you Matthew's girlfriend or friend with benefits?" He asked, leaning on the door and crossing his arms.

I looked away. He was very attractive, with short bronze coloured hair and hazel eyes. He was the same height as Matt but he was more built than Matthew. "Girlfriend" I replied, looking back at the cousin.

A cocky smile spread across his face again, showing off his white teeth. "Orlando, leave Shelby alone" I heard Matt's voice say.

Orlando just tilted his head and studied me. Matthew brushed past his cousin and turned to glare at him. "Go away" he said, raising an eyebrow.

His cousin just looked at me and gave me a wink before walking away from the door. My eyes widened and I looked back at Matt. "Well he's charming" I said sarcastically.

Matthew chuckled. "What's wrong?" He asked as he searched my face.

"Sad news, my mother is moving" I said, crossing my arms.

"Just your mother?" Matthew asked confused.

"Yeah, well I was hoping that maybe we could try that living together thing again" I said, hopeful.

He sighed amd stepped out of the doorway, closing the front door and facing me properly. "I have sad news too" he said.

Dread filled my stomach and I knew what he was about to say. "You're moving too, aren't you?" I asked, before glancing down.

"Yeah, my uncle wants me to go and live with him in the city, says he could get me a job at his firm" Matthew said, reaching for my hands.

I looked up slowly. "So you're moving to the city and I'm moving to a different state" I said before sighing.

It was silent between us. We both knew what this meant. "Does that mean we're done?" I asked, feeling a little hurt.

"I have to be done with a lot of things, the band, my school, my home..." he trailed off.

He still hadn't answered the question. We both looked down at our joined hands. "Just when things were getting good between us" I mumbled.

Matthew pulled me towards him and cradled me to his chest, wrapping his arms around me. "Shelby, I'm going to always love you, no matter how far apart we are, or how long we are seperated for" he said, whispering it into my hair.

"It just won't be the same" I replied, pulling back slightly.

He cupped my cheek as he looked into my eyes. "We will always have each other" he said, slowly.

Matt leant down slowly as was just about to kiss me when the front door opened again. "Matthew" a stern voice said.

My boyfriend sighed and pulled away. "Uncle" he replied in a tired tone.

"Who's your friend?" The uncle asked.

I peeked over Matt's shoulder and almost dropped my mouth open. He looked like the splitting image of Matt's dad. They could have passed as twins.

Matt let me go and turned to look at his Uncle. "Uncle Richard, this is Shelby McGraw, my best friend and girlfriend, Shels.. this is my uncle" Matthew said, introducing us.

"Nice to meet you" Richard said, peering at me.

"And you as well" I replied with a tight smile.

"Matthew, we have to start packing up the house" his uncle said.

Matt gave me a sad look. "Sorry Shels, maybe we could go for a drink later with the guys" he said, also giving me a tight smile.

He didn't like this any more than I did. We were being torn apart. Maybe we weren't supposed to be together, but I didn't want to lose him. "Yeah sure" I said distractedly.

He opened the screen to the front door again and walked inside. "See you later" he said before the door closed.

I turned on my heel and stared at the house I had grown up in. Trudging towards it, I sighed and lifted my hand to rub my eyes.

I heard a horn and turned my head at the last second, than everything went black.
