MY MOM, ON THE OTHER HAND, HAD HAD A HAPPIER CHILDHOOD.

I don't know much but I do know that both of her parents actually cared about her so she didn't end up having to lug around childhood trauma through neglect all her life.

I'm not bitter at all.

Marian Jones, equipped with her top-notch brain and the support (plus money) of her parents went on to pursue a career in chemistry. Her career was full of astonishing feats but the most significant was the one that eventually brought her end.

I don't know what she was doing. I don't know if she had a plan or if she was just dumping chemicals together to see what would happen (which honestly sounds like something I would do.)

The details are foggy but what I do know is this: Marian Jones was in her lab one day and in an effort to be clean, she washed her hands before putting on her gloves. She went about her business when one of the test tubes she was working on imploded.

She wasn't surprised, this was a common occurrence. Still, she hurriedly went to clean up the mess when a bit of the liquid got onto her gloved hands. This didn't bother her either, she was wearing gloves for a reason. Marian Jones, cleaned off the glass and started again, not thinking much of the previous occurrences.

It was a week or so later and Marian was washing dishes, by hand of course. She and her housemate Agnes had a thing against dishwashers apparently, I really don't know why.

She noticed something strange, the water wasn't wetting her hand at all. She decided to test it out more and dipped her entire arm into the sink, sleeves included. Nothing either. She was more than a bit annoyed. All she wanted to do was wash her damn dishes and go the fuck to sleep.

She dipped her hand in again, this time it did get wet.

Was Marian Jones finally losing it? Maybe.

With a huff she dipped her hand it again. This time, not only did her hand come up dry, but the water came up with it, floating eerily under her hand in clusters of droplets.

Yep, Marian Jones was finally losing it.

She turned her hand so her palm was facing up instead of down. The water droplets rose and were now hovering about an inch over her hand. She took her other hand and tried to get the water to have the same reaction. It did. Turning both of her hands so the palm faced down, she did a slight jerking motion. All the water droplets dropped down into the sink.

Holy shit holy shit holy shit, was probably going through her head because that's what went through mine when I found out (but I had a milder version of it, I was like 11).

Marian Jones then did what any (wo)man of science of do, she tested it. After about a couple of hours of playing with water like a kid, she did everything she could to figure out what the fuck was going on. She tested blood, saliva, took hair samples to try to piece together something that made sense to her.

Turns out, whatever she did left a chemical footprint. The concoction that had blown up previously had somehow seeped into her gloves and reacted with the water remaining in her cuticles from when she had washed her hand.

Marian Jones was delighted. She didn't necessarily want to shout it to the world because someone would probably want to cut her up and experiment on her but she was proud. She hadn't heard of any cases like this, of a science experiment gone wrong and giving someone powers. This was her greatest achievement!

And her biggest mistake.

- woah woah woah can u believe I'm actually getting chapters up in time?? The current upload schedule is every Saturday (EST)!  This is subject to change because I skipped over chapter four while writing ahead because it was harder than the rest, but Saturdays is just what we're gonna roll with here.

- also, we're gonna pretend these powers aren't exactly like Percy Jackson's and move on with our lives :) dom's powers are gonna be a bit different than this but it's basically the same idea.

- I love Marian ok she's the best
