Introduction
For nearly forty years, the Cricket World Cup has produced a great festival of one day cricket
Since it’s arrival on the international cricket scene, it has given us cricket fans happiness, heartbreak and plenty of memorable moments.
Whether that be Clive Lloyd’s inspirational captains knock against Australia in the inaugural World Cup final. Kapil Dev holding the trophy aloft at Lord’s, inspiring a future generations of Indian cricket champions in 1983. Or when Ricky Ponting played the one day innings of his life against India at the Wanderers in the 2003 final.
Whatever moment you may cherish, there is no denying the importance of the World Cup.
The 2015 World Cup will come to the island continent of Australia and it’s neighbouring island county New Zealand.
Australia has won the tournament a record four times. Whilst New Zealand, despite coming close in the past, has not made a World Cup Final appearance.
This World Cup looks to be one of the best. With 14 teams and two host nations. Anything could happen.
Australia are undoubtedly favorites to win the cup in 2015. Or will it be New Zealand, after so many years of agonizing close calls win their first World Cup? India has the chance to win back to back World Cups. Sri Lanka will be aiming to go one better after losing to India in 2011. Pakistan is the surprise package of the cup, they have the talent to go all the way, but will they have the discipline? Can England regain form and win the cup? Or will South Africa win that cup they have come so, so close to winning?
So please, join me on rediscovering the amazing moments and history of this great tournament. So, we are now only six months away from the first match and all I can say now is “bring on the cup!”
