"Ballad. From Middle English word, balade." Mr. Schuester scrawled the word on the board and turned to the glee club, "Who knows what this word means?"

Rachel, Kurt and Raven's hands shot up but Brittany spoke, "It's a male duck."

"What?" Raven stared at her friend and Santana shrugged.

"Kurt." Mr. Schuester pointed, looking confused at Brittany's answer.

"A ballad is a love song." Kurt answered.

"Sometimes." Mr. Schuester agreed, "But they don't always express love. Ballads are stories set to music. Which is why they're the perfect storm of self expression. Stories and music are the ways we express feelings that we can't get out any other way. Okay, now sectionals are in a few weeks and there's a new rule this year. We have to perform a ballad."

"Looks like my weekly letter to the Ohio Show Choir Committee finally paid off." Rachel grinned at Raven and Puck.

"Omigod." Raven pressed her hands to her forehead, "Of course she would."

"Okay. So here's our assignment for the week. I'm going to pair you off, and I want you to pick a ballad to sing to your partner. Look them right in the eye. Find the emotion you want to express, and make them feel it." Mr. Schuester instructed.

Finn grinned, "I pick Quinn."

Raven glared at him from across the room, "Damn it. I was going to pick Quinn."

"No, no, no. Too easy. Your partners will be chosen by fate." Mr. Schuester said, "I put all your names in this hat. Whoever you choose is your partner."

"But Matt's out sick today. He had to go to the hospital, cause they found a spider in his ear." Santana mentioned.

"Ew." Everyone grumbled.

"Um, I guess I'll have to put my name in the hat for now." Mr. Schuester sighed.

Raven scrunched her eyes closed and mentally counted everyone in the room, "I'm so confused. That still means someone isn't going to have a partner."

"Maybe someone will be put in a threeway." Rachel said over Puck.

"Who's up first?" Mr. Schuester asked.

Puck got up and walked over to the hat and pulled out a piece of paper, "Mercedes."

"Ugh." Raven groaned.

"Alright." Mr. Schuester grinned.

Artie picked Quinn which Raven smiled at because Artie was nice.

Finn picked Kurt and said he wasn't comfortable singing to another guy but Mr. Schuester said he had to. Tina got Mike. Santana picked Brittany but Mr. Schuester told them they had to include Raven to which Raven sighed but Brittany and Santana smiled at her. Raven got along with both of them. More so, Brittany than Santana but it would work out okay.
